The number of Muslims grew more than all other religions combined, making Islam the fastest-growing religion over the decade between 2010 and 2020, a new study by the Pew Research Center has found, according to Middle East Eye.

Pew's Global Religious Landscape study, released on Monday, attributed the growth of Islam to natural demographic growth. It also concluded that at the global level, Muslim population change had "little to do with people converting into or out of the faith", the outlet reported.

"Muslims have more children and are younger, on average, than members of any other major religion," the study observed, according to the London-based outlet.

"Based on data for the 2015–2020 period, we estimated a Muslim woman would have 2.9 children, on average, in her lifetime, compared with 2.2 children per non-Muslim woman," the publication cited the report as saying.

The study, which examined how global religious composition changed between 2010 and 2020, concluded that while Christianity remained the world’s largest religion, comprising 2.3 billion people, the gap between the proponents of Islam and Christianity continued to shrink, Middle East Eye pointed out.

The world’s Christian population has decreased by about 1.8 per cent since 2010, the news outlet reported, referring to the study.

Regional changes

The increase in the number of Muslims in the world was concentrated primarily in Muslim-majority countries, the findings stated, according to Middle East Eye.

Islam saw the largest growth relative to other religions in Kazakhstan, Benin, and Lebanon, while the share of Muslims in Oman and Tanzania decreased, the news outlet explained.

The percentage of religiously unaffiliated people grew particularly steeply in the US, with an increase of 97 per cent from 2010, Middle East Eye’s report noted.

The majority of religiously unaffiliated people live in China, where 1.3 billion people are not affiliated with any religion, the study remarked, according to Middle East Eye.

Pew’s analysis found that Christians were still a majority in 60 per cent of all countries and territories surveyed. However, Christianity decreased by at least five per cent in 40 countries, while only significantly increasing in one, the UK-based news site explained.

Pew attributed part of this decline to people leaving Christianity, by measuring the number of adults who changed their religion to one different than the one they were raised in, Middle East Eye wrote.

Between 2010 and 2020, for every one adult that joined Christianity, three left, the outlet emphasised.

For the religiously unaffiliated, the opposite was true. For every one adult who stopped being unaffiliated religiously, three more became religiously unaffiliated, it continued.

Both Buddhism and Hinduism also saw more adults leave their religion than join it, the report said.

Islam was the only religion where more adults joined than left, it added.

The Growth of Islam

Islam is the world’s second-largest religion, with around two billion people, or around a quarter of the world’s population, according to Middle East Eye.

It grew by nearly 350 million people since 2010, almost three times as much as Christianity and more than all other religions combined, the site mentioned.

There are also nearly two billion religiously unaffiliated people, an increase of 270 million people since 2010, Middle East Eye highlighted.

They were the only category, along with Muslims, to grow relative to other religions as a share of the world’s population, the report explained.

Hinduism, the world’s third-largest religion, with 1.2 billion people, grew by 126 million people, according to Middle East Eye.

However, its percentage of the world’s population remained unchanged, the news outlet remarked.

The number of people belonging to other religions, such as Sikhism and Baha'i, grew to around 200 million people, or 2.2 per cent of the world’s population, according to Middle East Eye’s report.

Judaism grew by nearly a million people and remained around 0.2 per cent of the world’s population, the report noted.

Buddhism was the only major religion to have fewer people in 2020 than in 2010, with a decrease of 18.6 million people, Middle East Eye underscored.

It fell from around five percent to four percent of the world’s population, the report concluded.

The government has issued an ordinance aimed at preserving the history and ideals of the July 2024 mass uprising and ensuring the welfare and rehabilitation of the families of those killed and injured during the movement.

The ordinance, signed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury, was issued on Tuesday under the authority granted by Article 93(1) of the Constitution, as the Parliament currently stands dissolved, UNB reports.

The ordinance notes that Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 was triggered by the systematic oppression and racial policies of the then-Pakistani regime.

Despite the country’s independence and decades of public struggle, the goals of justice, democracy, and equality remain unfulfilled, it says.

It states that since January 2009, under the “fascist Awami League government,” widespread corruption, nepotism, political repression, forced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and the erosion of democratic rights and institutions have created deep concern among the people.

In this context, the July 2024 student-led anti-discrimination movement transformed into a full-scale public uprising. On August 5, 2024, the then ruling regime was overthrown and forced to flee the country following massive nationwide protests.

The ordinance highlights the sacrifices made during the uprising, including the deaths of thousands of unarmed student protesters and civilians, with many more injured.

It declares that their contribution must be honored and remembered as a proud chapter in the nation’s democratic struggle.

The interim government has pledged to recognise and support the wounded and families of those martyred in the uprising, ensuring their welfare and rehabilitation.

The ordinance was enacted as an urgent measure due to the absence of Parliament and the need for immediate action.

Israel already lost the war against Iran when our first missile was launched.

As Israeli civilians shelter from attacks, the public is "attacked" also by propaganda from the government, the Israeli army and the Mossad about the list of nuclear facilities and Islamic Republic generals eliminated, thanks to Israel's impressive and cunning operational capabilities.

But in a few days or weeks, when the smoke clears from bombings and the intoxicating testosterone dissipates, it will become clear to the Israeli public that the Iranian threat has in fact not been resolved. Perhaps Iran's motivation to produce nuclear weapons has even increased as a result of this round of violence.

Victory in war is not amorphous. It relies on achieving clearly defined goals. As with Gaza, the war in Iran also lacks realistic goals. As experts and Israeli officials have repeatedly argued, there is no way to erase the vast nuclear knowledge that Iran has accumulated over the years.

As long as the Iranian regime's extremist ideology remains, an ideology that cannot be assassinated or bombed into submission, every military facility that Israel destroyed will be rebuilt and every general killed will be replaced. The only ones who can decide the nature of the regime in Iran are its citizens.

For many years, Israel had one trump card, a major source of deterrence in the struggle against Iran: the very threat of a large-scale military attack. This influenced both Iranian behavior and reactions by the international community which sought a diplomatic solution.

But now, the attack card has been played. Israel has no other cards up its sleeve. When diplomatic negotiations resume, the Iranian regime will likely arrive even stronger, bolstered by surviving what they once feared, an Israeli attack.

Of course, U.S. President Donald Trump was also relying on the threat of an Israeli offensive to pressure Iran in his administration's nuclear negotiations with the country. After Israel's attack began, Trump wrote on Truth that "with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal…Iran must make a deal." He has consistently, since his inaugural address, claimed he wants to be remembered as a peacemaker, aligning with many of his political allies domestically who oppose U.S. military involvement abroad.

For example, the popular Trump supporter, Jack Posobiec wrote on X just hours before the outbreak of war that "a direct strike on Iran right now would disastrously split the Trump coalition. Trump smartly ran against starting new wars, this is what the swing states voted for...America First!"

MAGA Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also wrote on X, "Americans don't want to bomb Iran because the secular government of Israel says that Iran is on the verge of developing a nuclear bomb any day now. We've been told that for the past 20 years. The same story. Everyone I know is tired of U.S. intervention and regime change in foreign countries."

The Trump administration is aware of the opposition to Israel's attack from its political base and has issued a statement that the U.S. was and is not involved. But of course, this leaves Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alone, without serious backing from the U.S. as he wages what could reasonably become a prolonged war. The New York Times reported that much of Iran's nuclear program remains after Israel's opening strikes.

Therefore, despite the announcements by Israeli security establishment officials that attacks on Iran are expected to last a long time, Trump will probably work hard to put a stop to these volleys. Israel is also likely depending on a U.S. aid package to finance the war, which Israel already estimates will cost billions of shekels. It remains to be seen whether the Trump administration will be willing to help foot the bill.

Of course, none of this interests Netanyahu. From his perspective, he has fulfilled one of his key promises to his voters and admirers, and the facts are barely relevant amid his propaganda. It is Israeli taxpayers who as they run for shelter to save their lives should be asking: Have we already lost the war for our own safety?

This is a very awkward question. Indian made weapons can only be used on the Internet.

We will discuss in detail in this thread why Indian weapons cannot be used and why the Indian military refuses to use Indian weapons.

[🇧🇩-Land] Forming a Strategic Missile Force for Bangladesh Army.

With a view to cope with a much larger enemy (India) Bangladesh army needs to acquire substantial amount of firepower. Multiple Launch Rocket System will give you some firepower to destroy enemy's military infrastructures but tactical missiles are the right weapons systems to give you adequate firepower and pinpoint accuracy to destroy enemy's military infrastructures. That's why it is recommended that Bangladesh army raise a strategic missile force with the help of Turkey and China. Bangladesh army is working with Turkey to procure Bora tactical missile soon.
