Super Bowl LVIII

Super Bowl LVIII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2023 season. In a rematch of Super Bowl LIV from four years earlier, the American Football Conference (AFC) champion and defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime. The Chiefs became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2004.

The game was played on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. This was the first Super Bowl to be held in the state of Nevada. It marked the third straight year that the Super Bowl has been played in the Western United States, following host cities Inglewood, California, in 2022 and Glendale, Arizona, in 2023.

As this was the Chiefs' fourth Super Bowl appearance and third win in five years, many have said this game established them as a dynasty. It was the second Super Bowl to be decided in overtime, the first being Super Bowl LI, seven years earlier.[9][10] Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP), completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The game's sellout attendance of 61,629 was the smallest crowd in Super Bowl history outside of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The game was televised nationally by CBS, streamed on Paramount+, alternatively broadcast on youth-oriented sister network Nickelodeon, and televised on the Spanish-language network Univision. It was also the second simulcast in Super Bowl history since Super Bowl I. Super Bowl LVIII became the most watched program in American television history, with a total of 123.4 million average viewers across all platforms, which broke the average record of 115.1 million viewers set by the previous year's Super Bowl.

The game saw the highest unduplicated total audience in history with more than 200 million viewers watching all or part of the game.

Leonid and Friends (Russian and Ukrainian band) do a cover of "After The Love Has Gone" (by the band "Earth, Wind and Fire"). Rendition is so faithful, just uncanny!

They are now touring the US with show after successful show.

US campuses coast-to-coast are now on fire with Pro-Palestinian protests, USC and UCLA in my neck of the woods are seeing wave after wave of silent demonstrations, with police manhandling protestors. Like the USC valedictorian Asna Tabassum (her graduation speech was canceled by USC) stated, one has to make a difference between Anti-Zionist and Anti-Semite.

It is ironic that US media vehemently glorifies student protests in other countries while condemn it at home. Students aren’t even protesting to the US government. They are only asking for policy revisions towards a foreign country. Is it not hypocrisy when US media openly supported student protests who were trying to overthrow some foreign governments ? It seems that protesting anything against Israel is not kosher but protesting to overthrow a muslim or any unfriendly government is both kosher and halal.

I wanted to highlight Conservative one-time presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy's facepalm-inducing encounter with Ann Coulter.

He allowed Ann to make a complete clown of himself. When is this guy going to learn to stop being a lapdog of GOP whites ?

He has been fed a good dose of what he deserves.

I have no words.

Rarely do South Asian immigrant children get the opportunity to mix with the whites, let alone elite white children. Most of them grow up with other immigrant children. Whatever they say about the white culture is based on their imagination of the whites. You can see it yourself. Just try the fantasy white meal cooked at the immigrant family homes, which does not resemble the real one. When they confront a real white person in real life, they get shocked. If English is the only European language someone speaks, that person doesn't know anything about the white culture. One must be able to speak at least one of the Germanic languages, such as German, Dutch, Swedish, etc., which have limited colonial populations and can not be learned outside Europe, like English, Spanish, or French. Why not French? Many Algerians/Djiboutians speak better French than someone in Paris.

This is what part of the Indian diaspora stands for nowadays. Their parents put their heads down and worked hard - now the 2nd generation Indian-American offspring are arrogant pieces of crap. I say throw the book at this idiot and bar her from all licenses, medical or otherwise. Irresponsible behavior must have repercussions. No one's getting fooled by her teary-eyed drama.

This is an AI assisted retro-future vision on how our world might have looked if the 50's American space-age-fueled stylization in all spheres of life had persisted. I particularly like the architecture and the spaceships. Good stuff!

Jimmy Carter celebrates his 100th birthday on Tuesday, making him the first US president to reach the milestone.

Carter, a Democrat who served in the White House from 1977 to 1981, has spent the past 19 months in hospice care in his home state of Georgia.

But the former peanut farmer, who first entered politics in the 1960s as a state senator, is "emotionally engaged and still having experiences and laughing, loving", his grandson, Jason, said in September.

And the centenarian still has political ambitions: "I'm only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris" in November's election, the humanitarian and Nobel Prize recipient said, according to his grandson.

To honour the occasion, volunteers with Habitat for Humanity - the housing charity Carter has worked with for 40 years - are building 30 homes in Minnesota this week.

Several events were organised in Plains, the former Georgia governor's hometown, to celebrate the occasion on Tuesday.

The day began with a naturalisation ceremony for 100 people from 30 separate countries who all became US citizens. In the afternoon, a military flyover - including four F-18 jets - graced the skies over Plains.

It comes after a star-studded concert was held in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this month to celebrate the 39th president's milestone birthday and to raise funds for The Carter Center.

"It was an incredible evening, full of good music and heartfelt tributes, and it made history as the first-ever 100th birthday celebration for a living American president," Carter said at the time.

The concert, which raised more than $1.2m (£900,000) and also featured recorded messages from other presidents, will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting on Tuesday. Dozens of musical acts performed at the event and thousands attended.

The former president will be watching the broadcast on Tuesday, his family said.

Carter, who was not able to attend the concert in person, made a rare public appearance in November 2023 when he attended a memorial service for his wife Rosalynn who died aged 96 earlier that month.

Their 77-year marriage remains the longest of any first couple.

US Air Force begins production of futurist blended wing body aircraft prototype

The US Air Force has picked aerospace start-up JetZero to build a blended wing body (BWB) prototype aircraft.

The futurist-looking aircraft is to be assembled by 2026, with flight testing beginning in 2027.

Differing from a traditional tube-and-wing aircraft, the BWB blends the aircraft body into its high-aspect-ratio wing – decreasing aerodynamic drag by at least 30% and providing additional lift.
This increased efficiency will enable extended range, more loiter time, and improves payload delivery efficiencies, according to the US Air Force's (USAF) website.

While the BWB concept has been around for decades, more recent technology advancements in structural design, materials technology, and manufacturing have made large-scale production achievable.

The commercial industry, including passenger airlines and air freight companies, stand to benefit from the development of this technology – with increased cabin or cargo space and decreased fuel costs.

Announcing the decision at an event hosted by the Air and Space Forces Association, USAF secretary Frank Kendall, said: "This is a prototype/demonstration project. It is intended to accelerate the next generation of the large aircraft the air force needs in the future.

"That's going to lead to improvements in not just the efficiency and capability of our force, but also in our impact on the climate." Several military transport configurations are possible with the BWB. Together, these aircraft types account for approximately 60% of USAF's total annual jet fuel consumption.

Former C-17 Globemaster III pilot and engineer Dr Ravi Chaudhary, assistant secretary of USAF for Energy, Installations and Environment, is leading efforts to ensure efficiencies in operational energy to build greater agility for theatre commanders.

He said: "It's been a little over 100 years since a few brave airmen took to the skies and proved the first aerial refueling capability, extending the global reach of our air force.

"This announcement marks another game-changing milestone for the air force in our efforts to maintain the advantage of airpower effectiveness against any future competitors."
