The Indian Navy successfully test fired an indigenous anti-ship missile over the Arabian Sea, marking a significant step in India's efforts towards self-reliance in defense technologies. This revolutionary missile, entirely developed by Indian scientists and engineers, represents a huge stride in the indigenization of India's defense infrastructure. The project is a collaborative effort between various esteemed agencies, including the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The successful trial brings a sense of pride and accomplishment to India's defense realm.

India on Wednesday successfully tested an indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile for the first time, officials familiar with the matter said. The missile was test-fired from a Seaking helicopter of the Indian Navy at the integrated test range (ITR) at Chandipur off the Odisha coast, a defence ministry statement said.

The test was conducted jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the navy. “The mission met all its objectives. It is the first indigenous air launched anti-ship missile system for the Indian Navy,” the ministry said.

The missile followed the desired sea skimming trajectory and reached the designated target with a high degree of accuracy, validating control, guidance and mission algorithms, it added. The test comes at a time when self-reliance in defence is a top priority for the government.

“All the sub-systems performed satisfactorily. The sensors deployed across the test range and near impact point tracked the missile trajectory and captured all the events,” the statement said.

The missile employs several new technologies, including an indigenously developed launcher for the helicopter, and its guidance system consists of a state-of-the-art navigation system and integrated avionics, said officials familiar with the development.

India will test its new anti-ship ballistic missile, which will be able to strike targets at a range of over 1,000 km in a major step towards bolstering firepower of the defence forces.

The missile test is scheduled to be held in the next few days, which would be done from the eastern coast of the country, top sources told India Today TV.

The missile system will help the Navy to create a strong inventory of ballistic missiles, which are being used by countries engaged in conflicts. The missiles would enable the Navy to hit targets from both surface ships and shore-based locations.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is also making hypersonic missiles for the defence forces.

The decision to create a rocket force is aimed at strengthening India's medium-range striking capability, a feature already possessed by neighbouring countries Pakistan and China. As per the authorities, the Pralay missiles, which are currently being mass-produced, are expected to be ready for operational service soon.

These missiles, powered by a solid-propellant rocket motor and equipped with other novel technologies, have a range of 150 to 500 kilometres.

The rocket force project would provide a significant boost to the armed forces' efforts to develop a strategic rocket force. The forces have been working on the creation of a rocket force to counter border threats.

India on Sunday (November 17, 2024) announced the successful flight test of its maiden long-range hypersonic missile with a range of 1500km. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the flight test late on Saturday from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off Odisha coast, the latest in a series of missile tests in the last two months.

“The missile is designed to carry various payloads for ranges greater than 1500km for all the services of Indian armed forces,” DRDO said in a statement. “The missile was tracked by various range systems, deployed in multiple domains. The flight data obtained from down range ship stations confirmed the successful terminal maneuvers and impact with high degree of accuracy.”
