These people, though mostly drunk on village liquor, are still someone's husband, someone's father, someone's brother. Live and let live I say. We don't have to stoop to the level of some trigger-happy BSF members.

I am proud of the BGB -they are consummate professionals.

Two Indian nationals were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for illegal entry into Bangladesh through the border.

They were detained on Wednesday from the Dumdumia and Kalauora borders by the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).

The two arrested individuals are: Blooming Star, 32, from the Wamlingk area of the Paniyasal Police Station in East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, India, and Lokas, 55, from the Barmon area of the Saigram Police Station in the same district.

The confirmation of their arrest was provided by Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman, the commanding officer of the 48 BGB Sylhet Battalion, on Wednesday evening.

He said that the two Indian nationals were apprehended by a border outpost patrol team for illegally crossing into Bangladesh from India.

They have been handed over to the relevant police stations for further action.​

Two held for attempting to enter India illegally get bail

A Panchagarh court granted bail to two youths this afternoon who were held by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along Barashashi Mayapara border in Panchagarh's Boda upazila last night for attempting to cross into India.


Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ashrafuzzaman passed the order when they were produced before the court, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Officer-in-Charge of Boda Police Station Md Mozammel Haque said BGB members of Barashashi border outpost detained two young people near Barashashi Mayapara border around 7:30pm while they were trying to enter India illegally though the border.

The detainees were Krishna Chandra Roy, 20, of Bhaulaganj village in Debiganj and Dipta Roy, 18, of Mareya village in Boda upazila of the district.


Later, early today, BoP commander of BGB Nayek Subedar AKM Ali Azad filed a case with the police station.

A total of 19 people, most of them from Hindu community, were held by BGB men on different border areas in Panchagarh after the changeover of the government, BGB sources said.

Indian national arrested with 18 gold bars in Meherpur

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian national along with 18 gold bars, weighing 2.18 kg, along the Mujibnagar border of Meherpur this afternoon.

The arrestee is Norr Hossain, 48, of Hridoypur village in Nadia district, India.

Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) commander Lt Col Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman said a BGB unit conducted a raid near pillar No. 104 of the Mujibnagar border after receiving a tip-off that a huge amount of gold was being smuggled to India through the Mujibnagar border.

Noor Hossain was arrested around 4:30pm. After searching his body, 18 gold bars were seized. Those were wrapped with his legs with scotch tape.

Havildar Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Mujibnagar Police Station in this regard.

The bars have been submitted to the Meherpur Treasury Office.​
