Indian national held at Kurigram border

Bangladesh Border Guard has detained an Indian national at Phulbari border in Kurigram for entering Bangladesh illegally.

The detainee is Babul Mia, of Tharaikhana area in Cooch Behar of West Bengal, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent quoting Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nawabur Rahman.

The 15 BGB Battalion of Gangahat camp in Phulbari upazila under Lalmonirhat handed him over to Phulbari Police Station this afternoon.

BGB and police claimed Babul, a smuggler by profession, was held near sub-pillar 8 of main pillar 938 at the border around 11:00pm on Friday.
The OC said a case has been filed against him under the Passport Act.​

Assorted incidents of Indian spies entering into this area notwithstanding, one must remember, that Indian security strategists see this entire area (Thakurgaon in the West to Kurigram in the East) as a target to take over during times of conflict for strategic purposes. They DO NOT like the fact that Chicken's neck exists, which is a strategic weakness for their army. Ideally they would like to cut off this entire "head" area (Thakurgaon, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Kurigram) during time of conflict (presumably with China, I'm guessing) and move men and materiel Eastward, with tacit approval from Sheikh-ka-beti.

That is why they are pushing so hard to run a train line from East to West through Bangladesh from their border in WB to Cooch Behar.

Ultimately - this entire weakly-defended area will be over-run and taken over by India, like Crimea was taken over by the Russians.

The Bangladesh army brass have been bought off and the Chinese are not keen to apply an antidote to this scenario, despite Teesta management plans et al.

Two Indian nationals were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for illegal entry into Bangladesh through the border.

They were detained on Wednesday from the Dumdumia and Kalauora borders by the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).

The two arrested individuals are: Blooming Star, 32, from the Wamlingk area of the Paniyasal Police Station in East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, India, and Lokas, 55, from the Barmon area of the Saigram Police Station in the same district.

The confirmation of their arrest was provided by Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman, the commanding officer of the 48 BGB Sylhet Battalion, on Wednesday evening.

He said that the two Indian nationals were apprehended by a border outpost patrol team for illegally crossing into Bangladesh from India.

They have been handed over to the relevant police stations for further action.​

A Panchagarh court granted bail to two youths this afternoon who were held by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along Barashashi Mayapara border in Panchagarh's Boda upazila last night for attempting to cross into India.


Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ashrafuzzaman passed the order when they were produced before the court, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Officer-in-Charge of Boda Police Station Md Mozammel Haque said BGB members of Barashashi border outpost detained two young people near Barashashi Mayapara border around 7:30pm while they were trying to enter India illegally though the border.

The detainees were Krishna Chandra Roy, 20, of Bhaulaganj village in Debiganj and Dipta Roy, 18, of Mareya village in Boda upazila of the district.


Later, early today, BoP commander of BGB Nayek Subedar AKM Ali Azad filed a case with the police station.

A total of 19 people, most of them from Hindu community, were held by BGB men on different border areas in Panchagarh after the changeover of the government, BGB sources said.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian national along with 18 gold bars, weighing 2.18 kg, along the Mujibnagar border of Meherpur this afternoon.

The arrestee is Norr Hossain, 48, of Hridoypur village in Nadia district, India.

Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) commander Lt Col Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman said a BGB unit conducted a raid near pillar No. 104 of the Mujibnagar border after receiving a tip-off that a huge amount of gold was being smuggled to India through the Mujibnagar border.

Noor Hossain was arrested around 4:30pm. After searching his body, 18 gold bars were seized. Those were wrapped with his legs with scotch tape.

Havildar Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Mujibnagar Police Station in this regard.

The bars have been submitted to the Meherpur Treasury Office.​

কুমিল্লার দাউদকান্দি উপজেলায় নয় বছর বয়সী এক শিশুকে ধর্ষণচেষ্টার অভিযোগে তাজিনদার সিং (৫০) নামে ভারতীয় এক নাগরিককে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ।

উপজেলার ইলিয়টগঞ্জ (উত্তর) ইউনিয়নের রায়পুর সিংগুলা গ্রাম থেকে বৃহস্পতিবার তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। দাউদকান্দি মডেল থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. জুনায়েত চৌধুরী দ্য ডেইলি স্টারকে এ তথ্য নিশ্চত করেছেন।

পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, ধর্ষণের চেষ্টা করলে তাজিনদার সিংকে পিটুনি দিয়ে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা পুলিশের হাতে তুলে দেয়। প্রথমে তাকে গৌরীপুর উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হয়। তারপর থানায় নেওয়া হয়।

সূত্র জানিয়েছে, তাজিনদার দীর্ঘ দিন যাবত দাউদকান্দি উপজেলার মোহাম্মদপুর এলাকায় এগ্রো এমবুস লিমিটেডের একটি কারখানায় প্রকৌশলী হিসেবে চাকরি করছেন। তাজিনদারের বাড়ি ভারতের পাঞ্জাবের লুধিয়ানা শহরের বাসিপাঠানা গ্রামে। তার বাবার নাম পাল সিং।

জুনায়েত বলেন, 'ওই শিশুর পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন আইনে মামলা হয়েছে। সে অনুযায়ী আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে।'​
