An Indian software engineer has received $10,000 after a joke by customer support fell flat.
Canadian company dbrand, which makes accessories for devices, has come under fire for an alleged racist remark against an Indian customer who gave negative feedback about a product.

Bhuwan Chitransh, a Netherlands-based software engineer from Pune, took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that a dbrand Macbook skin he bought had lost its color within just two months. "Your last name is basically *&*&*&*& rash, be serious," the company wrote in response to the complaint.

Chitransh answered by suggesting such remarks reflect "the invaluable perspective" of the brand towards Indian customers. He also tagged the accounts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his office, and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The comment triggered a widespread outcry on social media, particularly in India. Amid the backlash, dbrand eventually apologized and offered $10,000 to Chitransh "as a gesture of goodwill."

At the same time, however, it clarified that it has been poking fun at customers on social media for over a decade and will not stop doing so. "But maybe next time you'll be the one who gets $10,000," the firm wrote.

Odd, for making fun of a name. That's the difference between a rule-of-law country, Canada, and India. In India scammers scam Canadians out of millions, including the elderly, laughing at them and mocking them and the Modi government supports it.

Has anybody named Dixit called in yet? :D

I remember Russell Peters made fun of some Sikh names some years ago (profane) and got into hot water because of his actions. People are thin-skinned nowadays, especially new immigrants. Clash of cultures I guess.

People have every right to remain as thin-skinned or as sensitive or as ignorant as they want, but those are their own personal issues to resolve, or not, as they see fit. Their own inabilities and insecurities cannot impose censorship on anyone else. Others are free to express their views equally.

Same country did not take any action on celebration of assassination of Indian PM Mrs Indira Gandhi. They even did not take action on Khalistanis involved in Kanishka Bombing. You allow terrorist to operate freely and do a drama of compensation for mocking somebody. You can impress only brain washed people and not someone who know about your duplicity.

xhit'n'rash or xhitrash ? :ROFLMAO:

pretty sure a fair few of us find this hilarious too:

Before half-educated chaiwala type people call morality lessons on Canadians, they should remember that Canada is a 1st world country that runs on laws.

If evidence was presented on Khalistani separatist involvement in Kanishka bombing in Canadian courts, then I'm sure it'd have been pursued and Khalistanis like Parmar and Reyat convicted by Canada's courts.

No one in India followed up to provide evidence on this, as is typical, so no outcome as to convicting Khalistanis was forthcoming.

The only person sounding uneducated and completely uninformed and ignorant of the history of the Kanishka bombing and the efforts of the Indian governments that followed over the next few decades is surely not Krishna.

You have an axe to grind sure. But do it subtly. Especially when you carry the responsibility of a Moderator.

Nothing moderate about your India and Indian baiting off late Bilal.

You were better. When we used to discuss road bikes. What happened? Got religion?

So far as providing evidences is concern, 28 request for extradition is done with all proof but there is no action from Canada side. Trudeau himself is questioned by his own MPs and media.

Indians (especially extremist Hindus) got religion bhai, accusing me of being religious (nothing wrong with it) is rather pointless, those who know me and my posts for the last decade believe otherwise.

Hijabis and Miss Universe contestants are the same in my book, all are human beings. Take a look at my Avatar too.

To be factual, extremist Hindu Indians did not really get true religion, but beliefs in a largely pseudo-religious extremist myth to push and further a "manufactured fictitious historical greatness narrative" (mixed in with bias and hate against Muslims) which Indians sorely needed for some reason. Religions usually don't teach hate but the RSS and Shivsena which justify their hate through religion - do. This hate is abhorrent to all religious and non-religious people globally, outside India.

This Indian phenomenon over the last decade has become painfully obvious to those of us who were not Indians or refused to "drink the Indian BJP/RSS/Shivsena Kool Aid". These Kool Aid drinkers are now laughably picking nation-based fights with innocuous countries like Canada who formerly helped India step into the age of being a Nuclear power.

Before pointing fingers at me as a biased Mod - think about who and what you are supporting as a Mod. I don't bait Indians. Objectivity is one of the prized qualities of a Mod and being anti-anything is not part of that job description.

I take objectivity very, very seriously as a Mod and generally in my personal life.

I have said this to some of the Indian posters here and will repeat it again, this Forum as a platform will not be used to further fictitious RSS or Shivsena extremist Social Media propaganda, whether from India or anywhere else. That is what Mod privileges will be used for - among other things.

Discuss India and Indian development in general all you want. We are all interested. Just be sure to present supporting evidence.

Notice not many complain about anti-Muslim hate here in this forum (because it is coming from mostly extremist Indian posters and I guess they do not care), but those of us who have been around for a while and used to (and still) love the India (and Indians) which used to be secular, normal and open-hearted (and the culture which was largely non-biased about all religions) are disappointed quite a bit. Before you blindly accuse me of grinding axes, think about that.

I go to India almost every year and all my secular highly-educated Indian friends (mostly Hindu) echo these same concerns, whether they reside in India or abroad.

Bhai I hear you. But by count there are 3 active Indian posters here. One is an open Hindutwavadi in the BJP camp. One a wishy washy free love beef eating sort who in nonetheless firmly in the BJP camp. And a closet Hindutwavadi. The above two are nationalists. And one is a dyed in the wool secularist super conservative (not a molecule of liberalism) old school Congress guy who is an Indian patriot.

How will it help the forum to stifle genuine Indian voices. Will it get you the sort of Indians you like and want?

They are respected moderators on the other forum. And even there are in the minority and fighting the Indian hordes as veritable brown Uncle Toms.

How long are Saif and you going to prop up this "Pakistani" forum by starting and populating 3000 topics a day on the Bangladeshi sub forum?

Do you perchance miss the ridiculousness of every topic on earth, be it US or Russia or China or Ukraine or Gaza or Lebanon being discussed on the Bangladeshi forum?

Has Bangladesh become the self styled UN on this forum? Its a genuine question .

Cheers, Doc

Whatever your personal opinion about the Bangladeshi Sub-Forum - we should discuss it in a discreet manner instead of discussing it openly, like you are doing here.

No one here is trying to stifle genuine Indian voices. Period. Have them post within the bounds of civility, all will be good.

I generally see no problem in posting subjects about Bangladesh or any other subject globally as long as it is not offensive to any group, religion, ethnicity or nationality, and per my discussion with the admins, it is not an issue.

As long as the banter is friendly and civil, it will attract more members and posters of all stripes to come here and post.

The fact that Saif has been posting about different topics in the Bangladeshi forum is a credit to this global forum. The Bangladeshi Sub-Forum was one of the largest non-Pakistani sub-Forums to be started from the get-go and because of Saif's organization efforts (mine also, to some extent), the Bangladeshi sub-Forum is what you see today.

Posters and members in the other sub-forums here are also encouraged to post vigorously (including the Indian forum). If they do not - and instead complain about why Bangladeshi posts are too many, then whose fault is it?

Let's try to organize and grow the Indian sub-Forum.

Are we going to muzzle Saif because he posts on Bangladeshi subjects vigorously? He likes to post about different subjects and that is fine.

Instead of complaining, try to keep up with Saif and ask Indian posters (as their Mod) to inform and entertain us with their high quality posts.

There are enough people and posters from India compared to Bangladesh, it should not be a problem.

Why is this common sense topic so hard to understand?

This will be my last post on this subject.
