Pakistan Great Wasim Akram Attacks Bangladesh's Mahmudullah: 'Looks Like He's On Vacation…'

Bangladesh have been outclassed in their first two matches in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, losing to India and New Zealand to crash out of the tournament.

Bangladesh lost to India by 6 wickets and then were beaten by New Zealand by a 5-wicket margin. After being eliminated, Pakistan great Wasim Akram lashedout Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah.

The Bangladesh veteran could manage to score just four runs from 14 deliveries as he was sent back by Michael Bracewell, with Will O’Rourke taking a catch after Mahmudullah tried to go for a big heave.

In the New Zealand innings, Mahmudullah spilled a rather ‘simple-looking’ catch to give a reperive to Rachin Ravindra at mid on. The Kiwi batter had reached his hundred and wa batting on 105 at the time.

“That was a sitter! Mahmudullah lagda hai chhuti de aaya hai (Mahmudullah looks like he has come here on vacation). Na batting ho rahi, na bowling (He’s unable to bat or bowl),” Akram was quoted as saying.

The 39-year-old did get a run out to his name as he found Tom Latham short of the crease but it did not have much bearing on the result.

“This is a learning curve for Bangladesh cricket. They’ve brought guys like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim who are 39 and 37 years old. Prepare young players for white ball cricket and let these veterans play red ball if they want to do it. White ball cricket is about fearlessness. This is what Bangladesh needs to think about, preparing a team for next year’s T20 World Cup,” he added.

Wasim Akram though praised Nahid Rana, who dismissed Kane Williamson.

“I saw Rana bowling for the first time. Look at the ball he bowled to Williamson… look at the pace, the carry, the swing of the delivery. Zabardast! I like the celebration too. Hardly any. Sometimes youngsters go overboard with their celebrations,” said Akram.

Australia captain Pat Cummins was ruled out from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury.

Australia captain Pat Cummins was ruled out from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury.
Pat Cummins slammed a particular Australia media for misquoting him for a remark on the Indian team in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Australian captain isn't a part of the 15-member squad participating in Pakistan after the pacer was ruled out prior to the tournament due to an ankle injury.

India were playing all their matches in Dubai in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, after BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan due to security reasons. Pakistan is hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The whole controversy started after Code Sports wrongly attributed that the Australian skipper had criticised ICC for allowing India to ‘pick and choose’ their venue for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

In fact, Code Sports also ran a graphic on social media, crediting the wrong quotes to Pat Cummins. The Australian fast bowler to a note of the same and denied. Taking to X, Pat Cummins said, “I have definitely never said this.”

What did Pat Cummins exactly say?

In an interview with Yahoo Australia, Pat Cummins said, “I think it’s good in that the tournament can go on, but obviously, it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong, and they’ve got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there.”
