Inside Pakistan Baluchestan this ubiquitous Zamyad is da thing to buy. The Baluchi bring them to Karachi and we see dem on our streets specially around Lyari neighborhood and Lasbella/ Hub on the border of Sindh n Baluchestan. I've met a lot of Pakistani Baluchi and even more so Pashto people and they've lived in Iran long time. A big chunk of dem are Afghani migrants who've come down into our country over da years. Many have Iranian wives or husbands......These guys know no borders......they go in n out, many settle in Iran and some go on out to the EU. It's been like dis for centuries.

YES ...famous Iranian Blue Pickup truck makes it to Kenya:D:D

ZAMYAD is Iran's most widely used pickup truck..produced since 2001 in millions....inexpensive, simple reliable and everywhere ..I have seen videos of this truck in Pakistan, Afghanistan Armenistan..etc..

It is now exported to Kenya in "Yellow" colour!!..and they love it..

ZAMYAD since 2022 is produced and supplied with three engines, single-burner (gasoline) with electric throttle, dual-burner engine with optimized cylinder block and standard diesel engine with EURO-5 emission standard.

here is the video of Africans enjoying it,..

A similiar thing happened with Tofaş cars in Ethiopia. Car companies sell their old production lines to poor countries.

That being said, even an industry giant like Toyota started making a cheap truck like this called IMV0

I think the idea has merit, a cheap, reliable truck like this can find buyers even in a country like Turkey. Although there's stiff competition.

KMC (Kerman Motor Company) is turning out to be an interesting enterprise..It is fully prive ..started only few years ago by assembling Chinese cars in CKD form..They apparently now have bought a JAC platform (chinese auto platform) and now doing Iranian design modifications on the platform and have come up with first product called "eagle"..still a long way to go to be able to call them an Auto manufacturer and also now they have announced first "Eagle EV" product in 6 months using MAPNA tech.... .The speed of development is amazing in this private enterprise.

Is Canada the only G7 nation which has no global car brand of their own ?
interesting you mentioned that..Yes ,Canada is one of the few countries with advanced economy but with no domestic car brand..They made a deal with the US way back in the 60s called "North American auto pact" under which US Auto industry will set up plants and build cars in Canada where the products will be sold with no tariffs both in Canada and US.. that deal basically has killed any possibility of a Canada domestic brand..being next to a giant (US) has it drawbacks and advantages..lol..Canada's aviation industry also is now mostly owned by Europeans (Airbus)..small population amongst big guys in a free market economy!

That is quite true.

If Toyota has gotten into the "cheap pickup" game again - then it'll be tough for everyone else. This thing above cpsts around $10,000 in the US West Coast which is unthinkable. Short of protective tariffs, no way to save home country products from this competition. If parts can be bought in remote areas of the country and trained mechanics available to fix these things - then an automobile can gain this status

Even in the US in the 1980's - cheap Toyota half ton pickups were the thing to own for plumbers, electricians and HVAC people. One could equip the things with all manner of storage cabinets on the sides which were industry specific. Here is a 1980's RV Motorhome (with full kitchenette) using a one ton Toyota pickup truck (V6). I am sure the new plain-jane Toyota pickup above will see a dually (Double rear wheel) chassis made for an RV like this. Americans love their RVs.

I don't know what magic ingredients give these cars and trucks iconic status besides what I mentioned. A bulletproof Toyota engine is certainly one (I believe Toyotas have been assembled in Turkey for a while). It's like the ubiquitous Peugeot 505 and its many variants in the Maghreb - which is the replacement for your tough-as-nails donkey.

Heard about the Paykar from my Iranian friends - I am sure it is a great product but don't know if engine is made in Iran. French cars like Renault, Peugeot and Citreon were ubiquitous in Iran at one point, especially pre-revolution times.
