General Are Indians pathologically uncool ?

Srs question to non Bharatiya people here.

This phrase was coined by a former love interest.. she gone, but the phrase has stuck with me, in ways more poignant than my literary prowess (non prowess, really) can put into words.

I spend about half the year in a touristy place and see mostly goras/goris etc, and then suddenly, a bus full of Yahoos appear.. (groups of maratha, karnataka, kerala MEN mostly)

and they fuggin' DESTROY the vibe with their ogling at women.. the "make fraandship" crew, I call em.

even apart from there, they just an embarrassment everywhere they go, its very cringe.

anywho... are Indians really pathologically uncool ?

I know there's exceptions, like doc sb here..

what have your experiences with Indians been like ?

Most Indians are ok just like most Pakistanis. There are bad apples everywhere and we unfortunately cant do anything about it.

We see reasonable Pakistanis everywhere because for every one Pakistani overseas there are a 100 Indians, some of whom are questionable.

Exception to this is the UK, but even in the UK most Pakistani I’ve run into are fairly decent just like the Indians.

Why are you over-simplifying and comparing people from different backgrounds in a country like India - with their "coolness" factor. It has little to do with national origin. But I get your drift.

We also have to avoid judging people based on their caste.

We all come from different financial, educational and family backgrounds (even in the subcontinent) and some were born into privilege and wealth and are the epitome of "cool" - while some are not. This is true in most countries - just like India. If people lack education and exposure, they will be hard to deal with, and for those with some education like us, embarrassing.

But everyone cannot come from Nawab of Pataudi's family.

A lack of education and exposure will mean folks will be out-of-place culturally in Western countries. Some people love to look down on them - I don't anymore.

Five generations ago, all of us came from the farmlands. If not - this was a rarity. Very few in the subcontinent came from urban privileged class.

But even these supposedly uncouth people have the right to attend the school of hard knocks and learn from their mistakes. If they are uncool, someone will give them a hard lesson.

Eventually - as they age, they will improve themselves with their earnings - which will buy culture, class, etiquette. Their children will be completely different.

But they have to be willing to make this change.

I have seen this happen with my own eyes in my lifetime.

Wow, very good, and colour me surprised !

I see it everyday around here, people with the most meagre means, hand to mouth.. tandoor "chefs", cabbies etc, proper working class.. best attitude ever.

and guys driving proper Italian cars, drowning in equal part in money, and misery.

I have more respect for hardworking people such as tandoor "chefs" and cabbies because they really "earn" their pay with the sweat of their brow. No one voluntarily chooses types of work that pays little as a reward, but some have no options.

Uber/Lyft drivers and Limo drivers' work is not maybe so hard - but it is monotonous work and potentially dangerous after-hours. I have seen retired and senior people do this, yes Desi people too.

its the same in the west

you do get the odd crossover too, both good and bad

like a low level cleaner type guy at a joint who a rapey mofugger

or a quiet philanthropist just flying under the radar
