“This issue must reach its logical end after escalation,” Kumar allegedly said. “It should not be left in the middle. Mr Trudeau, what are you? Today 10 of our submarines will go from Hindustan and nuke you Canada. What is your place?”

Commentators on social media were quick to point out Canada and India’s nuclear history. The two countries reached a nuclear co-operation agreement in 2010 after decades of distrust sparked by India’s use of Canadian nuclear technology for a weapons test in 1974.
