Bangladesh has been ranked as the third most peaceful country in South Asia, ahead of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2024.
The Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace released the Global Peace Index today, which evaluates nations based on safety and security, militarisation, and the frequency of ongoing conflicts, ranking countries from most to least peaceful.
Bangladesh achieved a medium peace status, ranking 93 out of 163 countries with a score of 2.126. A lower score indicates a more peaceful country. Comparatively, Rwanda is ranked 92nd, Jamaica 91st, and Algeria 90th.
Bangladesh is ahead of Equatorial Guinea which is 94th, and Mauritania at 95.

The report indicated that Bangladesh scored 2.515 in the Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict domain, 2.322 in the Societal Safety and Security domain, and 1.506 in the Militarisation domain.
Globally, the five most peaceful countries are Singapore, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Finland.
Meanwhile, the least peaceful countries are Ukraine (159), Afghanistan (160), South Sudan (161), Sudan (162), and Yemen (163).
