Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with acting Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya and two other leaders of the Palestinian group in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian state TV reported.

"You defeated the Zionist regime [Israel], which was in fact America's defeat," Khamenei, whose country supports Hamas in its war with Israel, told the Palestinian delegation. "You did not allow them to achieve any of their goals."

Iranian TV said the Palestinian leaders were in Tehran to congratulate Khamenei on the anniversary of the 1979 Iranian revolution. They expressed gratitude for Iran's continued support.

The delegation, which also included Mohammad Darwish, head of Hamas' leadership council, and top Hamas official Nizar Awadallah, presented Khamenei a report on the current situation in Gaza and the West Bank, and "the victories and successes that were achieved".

"We come to meet with you today with pride," the TV quoted al-Hayya as telling Khamenei.

Khamenei said US threats against Iran "have no effect on the mindset of our nation," the Iranian media said.

Khamenei warns of attempts to create ‘discord’ in Iran

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Monday against what he called ‘soft war’ tactics employed by enemies in a bid to sow discord within the Islamic republic.

‘Today, we have no concerns regarding hard defence or the enemy’s military threats. Islamic Iran possesses strong capabilities to counter such threats, ensuring a high level of security for its people,’ said Khamenei during a speech in Tehran.

He said Iran’s ‘enemies’ — referring to Israel and the United States — sought to create problems through ‘soft war threats’ aimed at ‘manipulating public opinion, creating discord and casting doubt over the foundations of the Islamic Revolution’.

The remarks came a day after Israel received a shipment of heavy American weapons during a visit by US secretary of state Marco Rubio.

On Sunday, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country had dealt a ‘mighty blow to Iran’s terror axis’ and vowed to ‘finish the job’ against Iran with US support.

Tehran’s allies in the region, including the Palestinian Hamas militants and Hezbollah in Lebanon, have suffered severe blows in conflicts with Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.

The war also saw rare direct attacks between Iran and Israel for the first time, after engaging in a shadow war for years.

In recent videos, Netanyahu has addressed Iranians in a seemingly friendly tone, and in one, he claimed that the Iranian government was leading its people ‘closer to the abyss’.

During his speech, Khamenei acknowledged that Iranians ‘have problems and legitimate expectations’, referring to the economic difficulties faced by the country due to international sanctions.

US president Donald Trump, who returned to the White House for a second term in January, has reinstated his ‘maximum pressure’ policy of sanctions against Iran, mirroring his approach during his first term.

Under this policy, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, accusing Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons, an allegation that Tehran has consistently denied.

Trump has recently called for striking a deal with Iran, but Khamenei later said ‘no problem will be solved by negotiating with America’.

The death toll from a major explosion in Iran's most important container port of Bandar Abbas has risen to at least 65, the Iranian state media reported on Monday.

Saturday's blast took place in the Shahid Rajaee section of the port, Iran's biggest container hub, shattering windows for several kilometers around, tearing metal strips off shipping containers and badly damaging goods inside, state media said.

Overseas plots to kill dissidents
Iran rejects Western accusations as ‘baseless’

Iran yesterday rejected accusations by the US and more than a dozen of its allies that Tehran had attempted to kill or kidnap dissidents, journalists and officials in Western countries.

In a statement, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei described the claims as "baseless", calling them "an attempt to divert public attention from the most pressing issue of the day, the genocide in occupied Palestine".

Western governments including the United States, Britain, France and Germany condemned in a joint statement on Thursday "the growing number of state threats from Iranian intelligence services in our respective territories".

"We are united in our opposition to the attempts of Iranian intelligence services to kill, kidnap, and harass people in Europe and North America in clear violation of our sovereignty," they said.

"These services are increasingly collaborating with international criminal organisations to target journalists, dissidents, Jewish citizens, and current and former officials in Europe and North America."

Baqaei said the accusations were "blatant fabrications... designed as part of a malicious Iranophobia campaign aimed at exerting pressure on the great Iranian nation".

Since early 2022, Britain says it has disrupted more than 20 Iran-linked plots to kidnap or kill individuals in the United Kingdom, including British nationals and others Tehran views as threats.

In October, Reuters reported that Iran was behind a wave of attempted assassinations and abductions across Europe and the United States.

There's going to be no more war gents. Jitni israel ko maar parri hae, I seriously doubt they'd mess around with the Iranians. US military is a bogus power, evidently. They won't risk their bases in the region to Iranian attack.
