Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari

Former ISKCON leader Chandan Kumar Dhar, alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka yesterday afternoon.

Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and chief of the Detective Branch, said a team of detectives arrested him in connection with a case filed in Chattogram.

Earlier on October 31, a case was filed with Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram, accusing Chinmoy, spokesperson of Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, and 18 others.

Firoz Khan, the then general secretary of Mohora ward BNP, filed the case on charges of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag in Chattogram's New Market area during a rally of the Hindu community on October 25.

Firoz, however, was expelled from the party over "anti-party" activities a day after filing the case.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on October 25, when some youths reportedly placed a saffron-coloured flag over the Bangladesh flag on the Shadhinata Sthombho (independence pillar) at the Zero Point near the New Market intersection during a rally organised by the Hindus under the banner of Sanatan Jagaran Mancha.

PROTESTS

Protesting the arrest of Chinmoy, former divisional organising secretary of the Chattogram ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), hundreds of people from the Hindu community gathered at Cheragi Pahar intersection in the port city around 6:00pm yesterday. They brought out a procession and demanded his immediate release.

Kazi Tarek Aziz, additional deputy commissioner (public relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said police have been deployed there to prevent any untoward incident.

In the capital, hundreds of members of the Hindu community, including ISKCON supporters, came out on the streets and blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the evening to protest the arrest.

Witnesses said around 200 ISKCON supporters gathered there, disrupting traffic movement. Tensions escalated when another group, armed with sticks, confronted the demonstrators, resulting in clashes.

The ISKCON supporters were eventually beaten and forced to leave the area.

Contacted, AKM Shahabuddin Shaheen, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said, "An unidentified group initially blocked the Shahbagh intersection, but another group soon intervened and dispersed them."

Processions were brought out also in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Narayanganj to protest the arrest.

Meanwhile, the Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad in a statement condemned the arrest.

Its presidents Ushaton Talukder, Prof Dr Nim Chandra Bhowmik, and Nirmal Rozario, and acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath demanded the release of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote spokesperson Prabhu Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the interest of the nation.

They said the arrest has the potential to tarnish Bangladesh's global image on the issue of freedom of expression and human rights.

ISKCON seeks apology from Mahmudur Rahman

1732583425541.png

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh has demanded an apology from Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Amar Desh, over his recent calls to ban the organisation.

In a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity today, ISKCON's General Secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari said that they expect Mahmudur to retract his statements and issue a public apology within a week.

"If he apologises, ISKCON will appreciate the gesture. Otherwise, we will pursue strong actions, including legal measures, against him," he added.

At a programme at Jatiya Press Club on Monday, Mahmudur had called for ISKCON to be banned.

Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari expressed concerns over the comments, describing them as "baseless threats that could harm Bangladesh's religious harmony and social unity".

"Statements like these are damaging to the country's communal peace and stability," he said.

ISKCON also addressed what it described as "misleading rumours" circulating on social media, including allegations of desecrating the national flag.

"These claims are entirely baseless. ISKCON has no flag of its own, and the flag in question is not related to ISKCON. We strictly follow Bangladesh's laws and are committed to maintaining peace and religious unity," Charu said.

ISKCON President Satya Ranjan Barai said, ''ISKCON is an international organisation that was not involved in any such incidents anywhere in the world. ISKCON is not an agent of any country's intelligence agency but works solely for the welfare of humanity.''

There may be a conspiracy behind the rumours aimed at tarnishing ISKCON's reputation both nationally and internationally, he added.

A sedition case was filed against 19 people today on charges of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag in Chattogram's New Market area on Friday.

Chandan Kumar Dhar, also known as Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, divisional organising secretary of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Chattogram, is among the accused. Firoz Khan, a resident of the Mohora area, filed the case with Kotwali Police Station last night.

Police have arrested two of the accused -- Rajesh Chowdhury and Hriday Das -- in the Chattogram's Sadarghat area last evening.

The other accused are Ajay Dutta, Leela Raj Das Brahmachari, Gopal Das Tipu, Dr Kathak Das, Engineer Amit Dhar, Roni Das, Rajib Das, Krishna Kumar Dutta, Jiku Chowdhury, Newton Dey, Tushar Chakraborty Rajib, Mithun Dey, Rupan Dhar, Rimon Dutta, Sukanta Das and Biswajit Gupta.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on October 25, when a group of youths reportedly placed a saffron-coloured flag over the Bangladeshi flag on a pillar at Zero Point near the New Market intersection during a rally organised by the Hindu community under the banner "Sanatan Jagaran Mancha".

The rally, held at Lal Dighi, was to press for eight specific demands.

A sedition case has been filed against 19 individuals, including two from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), for allegedly hoisting a saffron flag over Bangladesh’s national flag at Chittagong's New Market intersection on October 25.

The case was filed on Wednesday night by Md Feroze Khan under sedition law at Kotwali police station, said CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz.

Police have detained two individuals, Rajesh Chowdhury and Hriday Das, in the case.

The 19 accused are Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, 38, Iskcon’s Chittagong divisional organizing secretary, Ajay Dutta, 34, coordinator of Hindu Jagran Manch’s Chittagong's, Leela Raj Das Brahmachari, 48, principal of the Prabartak Iskcon temple in the city, Gopal Das Tipu, 38, Dr Kathak Das, 40, Amit Dhar, 38, Roni Das, 38, Rajib Das, 32, Krishna Kumar Dutta, 52, Jiku Chowdhury, 40, Newton Dey, 38, Tushar Chakraborty Rajib, 28, Mithun Dey, 35, Rupan Dhar, 35, Rimon Dutta, 28, Sukanta Das, 28, Biswajit Gupta, 42, Rajesh Chowdhury, 28, and Hriday Das, 25.

Additionally, 15-20 unidentified individuals are included as accused in the case.

According to the case documents, during a rally at Laldighi Maidan, a religious flag associated with Iskcon was reportedly placed over the national flag.

The case statement alleges that this act constituted a “desecration” and “contempt for the country’s sovereignty,” saying the accused engaged in “treasonous activities to destabilize the country by fostering an anarchic environment.”

A photo of the flags recently went viral on social media and drew criticism, prompting its subsequent removal.

ISKCON involved in attack on joint forces in Ctg incident: Police
A police officer faces acid attack

1732583972591.png

Chattogram Metropolitan Police has revealed that the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was involved in the attack on law enforcement and acid throwing in the Hazari Gali area of Chattogram, triggered by a Facebook post.

The incident led to vandalism, tension, and the attack on security forces.

Police have said those involved in the attack were heard shouting "Jai Shree Ram."

At a press conference held today at the city's Dampara Police Lines, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md Roish Uddin detailed the incident.

Earlier that day, a press conference by the joint forces had outlined the events of the attack.

According to the police, nine officers were injured in the attack, including Assistant Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman of the Kotwali Zone and police members – Saiful Islam, Bipul Bapari, Abu Sayem Sejan, Sayeed Hasan, Foyez, Naim, Ashikur, and Shahjahan Hossain Shaon.

Foyez was injured by acid and is currently being treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Roish Uddin said, "The attackers chanted "Jai Shree Ram." Our investigation indicates ISKCON supporters were behind the incident, triggered by a Facebook post. The crowd trapped Osman Ali, and when police arrived, they tried to free him. The situation escalated, with bricks and acid thrown at officers, injuring nine, one of whom was burned by acid."

A total of 82 people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The deputy police commissioner said the majority of those detained are believed to be ISKCON supporters, though some Muslims may also be involved, and investigations are ongoing.

Regarding Osman Ali, the person who posted about ISKCON on Facebook, the deputy commissioner added, "Osman Ali is currently in custody. If any religious insult is brought forward against him, we will take legal action."

Meanwhile, a case has been filed at the Kotwali Police Station of CMP, naming 82 individuals and accusing between 500 to 600 people in connection with the attack on law enforcement.

The case was filed by Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of Kotwali Police Station, CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz told TBS.

Police said the incident in Hazari Gali began on 5 November around 5:30pm when tension erupted after a Facebook post critical of ISKCON was shared. A group of people, reportedly Hindus, attacked shops in the area.

Upon receiving the information, police, army, and border guards arrived at the scene, where they rescued Osman Ali and his brother.

ISKCON denies involvement

ISKCON has denied any involvement in the violence, issuing a statement signed by the General Secretary of ISKCON Bangladesh Sri Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari.

The statement says following the recent violent events in Chattogram, there have been attempts to wrongly link ISKCON Bangladesh to the incidents, damaging our religious and social reputation.

"We strongly condemn this false information and want to make it clear that ISKCON Bangladesh is a peaceful, non-political religious group dedicated to promoting harmony, religious tolerance, and human welfare, both in Bangladesh and worldwide."

"We also condemn the recent attack and vandalism in Hazari Gali and state clearly that ISKCON has no connection to these events, despite what is being reported on social media and in the news," says the statement.

It's disheartening to see ISKCON engaging in seditious and anti-national activities on behalf of certain overseas interests inimical to Bangladesh sovereignty.

I hope these schemers are charged and expeditiously prosecuted.

Jihadis are doing exactly same what they did in Pakistan. Now Hindu temples and their Associates are on their Target. India should intervene now.

Keep calm, refrain from violence
Urges Prof Yunus; student leaders call on all to be vigilant

1732664016615.png

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday condemned the murder of a lawyer in the port city of Chattogram.

He has ordered an investigation into the killing and appropriate legal course, read a Facebook post of his Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

The CA has urged people to keep calm and refrain from engaging in any untoward activities, it said.

He has also ordered law enforcement agencies to step up security in the port city, including in all the vulnerable neighbourhoods.

The interim government is committed to ensuring and upholding communal harmony in Bangladesh at any cost, it added.

Earlier in the day, Saiful Islam Alif, a 32-year-old lawyer was killed during a clash between police and followers of former ISKCON leader Chandan Kumar Dhar, alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, in the Chattogram Court Building area.

On his verified Facebook page, Information Adviser Nahid Islam said that the killers of Saiful would face strict punishment.

''Since the beginning, the interim government has sincerely considered the demands of the minority communities. However, Chinmoy Krishna Das has been trying to create communal divisions by delivering false and provocative speeches at various meetings and rallies.''

"Despite being charged with sedition, Chinmoy Krishna continued to hold meetings without taking any legal action. The primary goal of such activities was to attract global media attention and portray Bangladesh and the July uprising in a negative way. Indian media has consistently engaged in such false propaganda."

Terming the killing of a lawyer at Chattogram court premises as unprecedented, Nahid said Chinmoy was planning to disrupt harmony in the country and had created a group of criminal supporters.

"The fascist Awami League has always sought to engage in communal politics by exploiting minority communities. Now, Indian media is also spreading false propaganda..."

Nahid said the Hindu community are citizens of Bangladesh, and the government would ensure their security.

"However, the Bangladesh government will ensure the maximum legal punishment for the subversive Hindu terrorists."

Nahid urged the people of the country to remain patient and calm, saying that the criminals would soon be arrested.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY CONSPIRATORS: HASNAT

Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, urged people across the country to remain calm.

"Please stay patient and calm. Do not take the law into your own hands or create any kind of unstable environment,'' Hasnat said this in his verified Facebook post yesterday.

"Our Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. We will not allow anyone to disrupt this harmony under any circumstances.

"Since August 5, a certain group has been deliberately conspiring to create chaos in our country. Please do not get involved in internal conflicts and inadvertently pave the way for these conspirators to realise their heinous plans."

In his Facebook post, Hasnat Abdullah demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Saiful's killers.

In a separate Facebook post yesterday, Hasnat called upon all stakeholders of the July uprising to remain vigilant and form "Night Watch Teams" in their localities.

"We seek the cooperation of the general public to ensure that no one can exploit the country's instability to carry out destructive attacks on our minority brothers and sisters.''

Hasnat said, ''We will always remain vocal in safeguarding the July uprising, protecting the sovereignty of our country, and ensuring the safety of the general populace.''

Meanwhile, in a separate Facebook post, Sarjis Alam, general secretary of July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, said if any individual, terrorist group, or organisation attempts to incite communal riots using religion as a "tool", strict measures must be taken against them.

He said, "Whoever is involved, we demand the highest punishment for murder. No leniency for conspirators. Too much leniency will embolden them."

Sarjis also emphasised that extremism should be judged not by religion but by the act of extremism itself.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a mourning and solidarity rally for Advocate Saiful at the Central Shaheed Minar at 2:00pm today.

Arrest of Chinmoy: Lawyer killed amid clashes in Chattogram

1732664240577.png

  • Chinmoy followers clash with police and lawyers
  • Slain lawyer was an assistant public prosecutor
  • Lawyers to be on strike in Chattogram today

A lawyer was killed during clashes between police and followers of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the Chattogram Court Building area yesterday.

The clashes that left at least 10 people injured began shortly before midday when a court sent Chinmoy to jail, rejecting his bail plea in a sedition case.

The deceased, 32-year-old Saiful Islam, was a member of Chattogram District Bar Association.

Citing eyewitnesses, Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, president of Chattogram District Bar Association, said some people protesting over Chimoy's arrest hacked Saiful to death in front of the main gate of the court premises around 3:30pm. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 4:00pm.

Mohammad Didar, an employee of Golam Rasul Market, who along with some other locals rescued Saiful and took him to the hospital, told The Daily Star, "Some Chinmoy followers hacked the lawyer on the road next to Rangam Convention Hall."

CMCH director Taslim Uddin told AFP, "He had deep injuries on his head."

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has condemned the murder of the lawyer and ordered an investigation and appropriate legal course.

BAIL REJECTED, CLASH

Chinmoy was taken to the court around 10:30am. Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam sent him to jail, rejecting the prayer for his bail after over an hour-long hearing.

Following the court order, lawyers who support him and his followers burst into protests outside the courtroom and stopped the prison van that was taking Chinmoy to jail. They also punctured a tire of the vehicle.

Chinmoy was heard calling upon his followers to remain calm from inside the bus.

"We are not against the state and the government. We, the Sanatanis, are a part of the state.... We will not do anything to destabilise the state and destroy peaceful coexistence. We will hold a peaceful protest by controlling our emotions and turning them into strength," he said.

At 2:50pm, members of the BGB and police fired several stun grenades and charged batons to disperse the demonstrators. Chinmoy's supporters hurled flower pots and brick chips towards police.

Police had to take Chinmoy to the jail in another vehicle, said CMP's Deputy Commissioner Rais Uddin.

Several cars, motorcycles, and a lawyer's chamber were vandalised on the ground floor of the Court Building Masjid Complex, said police and eyewitnesses.

Chattogram District Bar Association announced that lawyers will be on strike today to protest the murder, said Nazim Uddin Chowdhury.

Around 4:00pm, a group of lawyers began marching denouncing the vandalism and hurled brickbats towards Chinmoy's supporters.

Police later brought the situation under control.

Chinmoy, spokesperson for Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.

On October 31, a case was filed against him and 18 others in Chattogram on charges of disrespecting the national flag.

The Jote issued a statement last night, stating the group that killed the lawyer was trying to shift the blame on Hindus.

It demanded a judicial probe into the killing. If an investigation is carried out in collaboration with international organisations such as the United Nations and other human rights organisations, the facts will come out.

"We believe in peaceful programmes and are committed to maintaining the stability," it said.

Kanchan Acharjee, a central leader of the Jote, told The Daily Star that those who killed the lawyer must be brought to book.

Many people of the Hindu community gathered on the court premises and peacefully demonstrated for Chinmoy's release, he said.

But law enforcers attacked and dispersed them, he said, adding that the news of the lawyer's death came later.

"We have no idea who killed him," Kanchan said.

CHINMOY ARRESTED FOR SEDITION: ASIF

Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan yesterday said Chinmoy was arrested as someone accused of sedition, not as a leader of a community.

"The government will take strict action against any act of sedition that threatens the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh. Let it be clear to all: no one, regardless of their position or influence, will be spared if involved in such activities," he said during an event.

Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "There are many parties with vested interests that may be behind this. The parties which are banned might also be involved. No matter who, stern action will be taken in this regard."

ATTACKS, PROTESTS

At the Dhakeshwari temple in the capital, Sumon Kumar Roy, one of the Jote leaders, said attacks on several temples and chambers of Hindu lawyers have been reported in Chattogram.

Earlier in the day, Jagaran Jote demonstrated in Thakurgaon and Dinajpur in protest at the court decision to reject Chinmoy's bail petition.

Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers' Forum has announced a demonstration at 1:00pm today in the Supreme Court as well as in all district bar associations across the country, in protest at the murder.

In Bandarban, pro-BNP lawyers, Jamaat, and Shibir announced they would demonstrate today against the killing.

Meanwhile, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman condemned Saiful's murder, referring to him as a "beloved party member".

He demanded strict legal action against those involved.

Shafiqur also urged people not to take the law into their own hands under any circumstances.

"A certain group, siding with a fallen autocrat, is continuously conspiring and attempting to destabilise Bangladesh. Through provocations, they aim to create unrest. Just as their attempts have failed in the past, they will fail again in the future, Insha'Allah."

Chinmoy arrested for sedition, not as community leader: Asif Mahmud

Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Local Government, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, today clarified that Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari has been arrested on charges of sedition, not as a leader of any community.

He made the remarks during an event at Paotana College field in Rangpur's Pirgachha upazila, where winter clothing was distributed to underprivileged families.

"The government will take strict action against any act of sedition that threatens the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh. Let it be clear to all: no one, regardless of their position or influence, will be spared if involved in such activities," Asif said.

He stressed that law enforcement agencies act in the interest of national security, without any communal bias.

Touching on development disparities, Asif said, "In the past, development in the country was concentrated in areas tied to prime ministers and ministers. We aim to eliminate such inequality and ensure nationwide progress."

Referring to the historic 2024 mass uprising, he said, "The uprising emerged from people's dreams of an equitable democracy. The platform from which it arose remains significant. We sought a democracy free from discrimination."

On Rangpur's development, the adviser said, "During Sheikh Hasina's tenure, districts like Gopalganj have seen significant progress, while others faced neglect. Rangpur will no longer be subjected to such disparities. Special attention will be given to Rangpur in the national budget."

He also mentioned plans to improve union parishad services through alternative arrangements.

Later, nearly 600 winter garments and blankets were distributed to vulnerable families. Relatives of those martyred in the 2024 uprising shared their stories of hardship during the event.

Following the programme, Asif Mahmud visited the proposed site for a bridge over the Teesta River at Panialen Ghat, connecting Rangpur's Pirgachha and Kurigram's Ulipur. Hundreds of locals gathered at the site to demand the construction of the bridge.

Additionally, the adviser inaugurated the newly constructed Pirgachha Upazila Parishad building.

ISKCON issues: Internal, external factors may be at play, says home boss
Warns of vested interests behind the scenario, assures action

1732664509484.png

Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury suggested today that both internal and external influences could be linked to the recent issues surrounding ISKCON.

Speaking to journalists in Sylhet after a meeting with government officials, he said, "There are many parties with vested interests that may be behind the scenario. Additionally, banned groups might also have involvement. Regardless of who is responsible, strict action will be taken."

On the recent student clashes in the capital, Lt Gen Chowdhury stated, "Discussions with the students have yielded positive outcomes. They are like family to us, and we cannot afford to be harsh. They understood the situation and found a solution through dialogue."

Addressing concerns over cases filed after August 5, the adviser acknowledged reports of misconduct. "It is true that many false and retaliatory cases were filed, and some people profited from these cases. However, we are taking steps to ensure that no innocent individuals face harassment," he assured.

India's statement 'contrary to spirit of friendship'
Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Dhaka committed to upholding communal harmony in the country

1732665232047.png

India's statement following the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former ISKCON leader based in Chattogram, not only misrepresent facts but also stands contrary to the spirit of friendship and understanding between the two neighbouring countries, said Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in a statement tonight.

"It is with utter dismay and a deep sense of hurt that the Government of Bangladesh notes that the arrest of Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das has been misconstrued by certain quarters since Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das has been arrested on specific charges," said MOFA.

The Mofa statement said the MEA statement does not reflect the harmony that exists among the peoples of all faiths and the commitment and efforts of the government and the people in this regard.

Police arrested Chinmoy in Dhaka on Monday on charges of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag in Chattogram's New Market area during a rally of the Hindu community on October 25.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement, expressing concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote.

It said it has noted with deep concern the arrest and denial of Chinmoy, which follows the "multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements" in Bangladesh.

The MEA said there are several documented cases of arson and looting of minorities' homes and business establishments, as well as theft vandalism and desecration of deities and temples.

"It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges should be pressed against a religious leader presenting legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings."

India notes with concern the attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against the arrest of Shri Das, it said, urging Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.

Earlier, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus said the Indian media reports on the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh were an exaggeration.

In the statement issued today, MoFA said the Bangladesh government took note of the MEA statement on a matter concerning the internal affairs of Bangladesh.

"It [MEA statement] also completely disregards that the Government of Bangladesh is determined to conclusively end the culture of impunity to the perpetrators of gross human rights violations against the people of Bangladesh, thus treating the religious majority and minorities alike."

It said Bangladesh reaffirms in the strongest terms that every Bangladeshi, regardless of his or her religious identity, has the right to establish, maintain or perform respective religious rituals and practices or express views without hindrance.

"Ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, particularly the members of religious minorities remains a duty of the Government of Bangladesh. This was yet again vindicated by the peaceful observance of Durga Puja throughout Bangladesh only last month."

Bangladesh's government reiterated that the country's judiciary is fully independent and does not interfere in the judiciary's work. The matter under question is currently being dealt with by the court of law.

It is also committed to upholding communal harmony in the country, the MoFA said.

It expressed deep concern over the brutal killing of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif this afternoon in Chattogram and said authorities have stepped up security in the port city to ensure that religious harmony is maintained at any cost.

Asif Mahmud Captured from television

Local government, rural development and co-operatives adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said efforts are on to create an unstable situation in the country centering an arrest on Monday.

"I want to clarify that if anyone is involved in sedition, then that person won’t be spared no matter what his or her identity is. It has nothing to do with ethnicity. The law enforcement agencies will take action considering the security threat for the country," the adviser warned.

Asif Mahmud said this in reference to the arrest of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote spokesperson and Pundarik Dham principal Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari while speaking to newspersons after attending an event in Pirgachha of Rangpur.

He said, “The government will definitely take stern actions in case of any interference on the sovereignty of the country or any attack on it or any action that undermines the state or in cases of sedition. However, it must be ensured that no one suffers over ethnicity and political affiliations.”

In response to another question, Asif Mahmud said, “You have seen how marginal people were lured to Dhaka for loans in an effort to create instability. That attempt was foiled by the law enforcement agencies and the students. The convener of Ahinsha Bangladesh, the platform which planned this conspiracy, has been arrested for questioning.

Asked if the government has any plan to remove the union parishad chairmen, the local government adviser said, “They are to remain in the post until there is an alternative. The union parishads carry out several public services. This is why structure still exists. We will take a decision regarding this after creating an option quickly.”

Earlier, Asif Mahmud reached Pirgachha around 10:00 am in the morning. Later, he joined an event to distribute winter clothes among the destitute at the Paonahat College premises in Pirgachha.

Addressing the event the adviser said, “We should not forget who sacrificed their lives or got injured in the hope of building a new Bangladesh during the mass uprising in July and August. The government has announced to provide Tk 3 million to each family of the victim as compensation and it will be implemented. The government will also give them jobs. We will ensure that the Bangladesh government remains beside them as long as they live.”

He also stressed on equity in terms of development work saying it would ensure that Rangpur and the northern part of the country see the same level of development as the other districts of the country.

Among the others who addressed the event are - acting secretary of the Local Government Division Nazrul Islam, Rangpur deputy commissioner (DC) Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, superintendent of police (SP) in Mohammad Sharif Uddin, superintendent engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Rangpur region Anisul Wahab Khan, Pirgachha upazila nirbahi officer Md Nazmul Haque and general secretary of Rangpur Reporters Club and Rangpur Journalists Union Sarkar Mazharul Mannan.

Besides, family members of mass uprising martyrs Ranju Mia, Saiful Islam and Mamun Mia also addressed the programme.

Bangladesh Govt Reacts To Global Outrage Over Hindu Priest's Arrest, Says 'Committed To Upholding Communal Harmony'
Facing severe backlash from Hindus all over the world over the shocking arrest and jailing of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha and head of Pundarik Dham in Chittagong, the Bangladesh government headed by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus went into a face-saving mode, asserting that it remains committed to "upholding communal harmony" in the country.

After being taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 4:30 pm Monday, Das was produced before Judge Kazi Shariful Islam of Chittagong's 6th Metropolitan Magistrate around 10:30 am local time on Tuesday.

The judge, after rejecting his bail plea, sent the Hindu priest - associated with International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) - to jail. Condemning the shocking developments, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday that it has noted with "deep concern" the arrest and denial of bail to Das, who is also associated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh.

Highlighting the broader context of continuing violence against minorities in Bangladesh, especially Hindus, the MEA added, "This incident follows multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. Documented cases of arson, looting of minority homes and businesses, theft, vandalism, and desecration of deities and temples are deeply troubling.

"It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges should be pressed against a religious leader presenting legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings. We also note with concern the attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against the arrest of Shri Das," the ministry stated. India also urged the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to peaceful assembly and expression.

Reacting to MEA's statement late Tuesday evening, the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said that it is a "matter concerning internal affairs" of Bangladesh. "It is with utter dismay and deep sense of hurt that the Government of Bangladesh notes that the arrest of Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das has been misconstrued by certain quarters since Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das has been arrested on specific charges.

The Government of Bangladesh maintains that such unfounded statements not only misrepresent facts but also stand contrary to the spirit of friendship and understanding between the two neighboring countries," read a statement issued by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry. It mentioned that India's statement does not reflect the harmony that exists among the peoples of all faiths and the commitment and the efforts of the Bangladeshi government and the people in this regard.

"Bangladesh reaffirms in the strongest terms that every Bangladeshi, regardless of his or her religious identity, has the right to establish, maintain or perform respective religious rituals and practices or express views without hindrance. Ensuring safety and security of all citizens, particularly the members of religious minorities remains a duty of the Government of Bangladesh.

This was yet again vindicated by the peaceful observance of Durga Puja throughout Bangladesh only last month," it mentioned. Meanwhile, the local authorities in Chittagong are claiming that a lawyer was killed during a clash between police and followers of Das in the Chattogram Court Building area.

The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry stated that the interim government is deeply concerned over the "brutal killing" of 32-year-old advocate Saiful Islam Alif and the authorities have stepped up security in the port city to ensure that religious harmony is maintained at any cost. However, local media quoted Hindu leaders denying any involvement in the lawyer's death.

"Kanchan Acharjee, a central leader of the Sammilita Jagaran Jote, denied the involvement of their organisation in the violence and the killing of the lawyer in Chattogram. He also demanded the authorities concerned carry out proper investigation into the killing and bring the culprits to book," reported Bangladesh's Daily Star.

We had a power to create country like BD way back in 1971. We do have the power to intervene.
You didn't create Bangladesh. Mukti bahini created Bangladesh and your army had just performed the role of a helping hand. Your army doesn't have the power to intervene as Bangladesh army is far superior to the Pak army you defeated with the help of Mukti bahini in 1971.

It is India not Bangladesh which is a by product. India was created as the result of consensual sexual intercourse between Lord Mountbatten and Mahatma Gandhi. You guys didn't even shoot a bullet to gain independence from the Brits. On the other hand, Bangladesh got its independence from Pakistanis through a bloody liberation war.

Their nation is basically the illegitimate child born of the rape of Bangladeshi women by West Pakistani men.

A lot on non consensual sex happened before we Hindus had to intervene and put an end to their trauma, as their effeminate men watched on, clinging to their bunched up lungis.

Trying to control their strangely inappropriate hard-ons.

'Won’t allow ISKCON to implement Delhi’s agenda'
Student leaders say ‘minority theory’ will not be able to divide the country

1732753329473.png

Demanding an immediate ban on the ISKCON, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement today warned that they would not allow the platform to implement Delhi's agenda from within Bangladesh.

They also said a conspiracy is being hatched to destabilise the country, but the concept of "minority theory" will not be able to divide the country.

The leaders said these at two separate events of the student platform held at Chattogram and Dhaka respectively.

"ISKCON is acting as an agent of the Awami League, attempting to destabilise the country. This extremist organisation is behind the brutal killing of Saiful Islam," Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said at the rally held at the Tiger Pass intersection in Chattogram.

Hasnat said that Bangladesh is a land of coexistence, and extremists of any kind have no place here.

"We will work to protect everyone's rights. However, no room will be given if anyone tries to operate an extremist organisation under the guise of religion. My brother Saiful was brutally murdered. ISKCON must be banned as a terrorist organization," he added.

The rally also sought justice for the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, urging authorities to apprehend the killers within 24 hours.

Speaking at the event, Sarjis Alam, member of Jatiya Nagorik Committee and General Secretary of July Martyrs Memorial Foundation said, "General Sanatanis in the country are peace-loving, but the agents of the dictator Hasina are trying to create an unstable situation in the country by inciting ISKCON. However, we will not let that happen as long as we are alive."

Earlier in the day, the student leaders attended the second namaz-e-janaza for Saiful Islam at Jamiatul Falah Mosque in the city's Wasa intersection.

Meanwhile, speaking at the capital's rally, Abdul Hannan Masud, chief organiser of the platform, alleged that ISKCON is working to implement Delhi's agenda from Bangladesh at the instructions of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

"But their plan to pit Hindus and Muslims against each other in this country will never succeed," said Masud.

He said that there will be no more silent tolerance of any conspiracy.

"Even now, collaborators of the Awami League are lurking in various places, trying to make the country unstable in various ways. We have decided that wherever they are found, they will be beaten by the public and handed over to the police," Masud said.

Umama Fatema, spokesperson of the platform, said that the last trump card of Sheikh Hasina after August 5 was an attack on minorities.

"She wanted to portray that an Islamic revolution took place in Bangladesh, that Muslims were endangering Hindus, and that Hindus were unsafe in Bangladesh. The entire plot was orchestrated by India," said Umama.

She alleged that since August 5 the Indian media has been aggressively pushing the minority issue in Bangladesh, but no such events occurred here.

Criticising the interim government for its failure to address the propaganda allegedly spread by India, Umama said, "I believe it was the responsibility of the government to inform the world. India is running propaganda against Bangladesh through its media…However, we observed that the government was lenient towards India."

She said that Bangladesh's peaceful domestic politics is perceived as a threat to India's Pro-Hindu agenda.

"We must remain vigilant in our politics to ensure that neither India nor the Awami League can politicize the minority issue."

Central coordinator Mahin Sarkar demanded that ISKCON be banned, saying "ISKCON is a militant organization. We demand that it be banned.. However, we must not fall into any traps set by the Awami League. Everyone must remain calm and patient."

A grievous tragedy at Chattogram court
Govt must thoroughly investigate the clashes, hold to account those responsible

1732753942367.png

VISUAL: STAR

We are disturbed by the clashes that erupted on the Chattogram court premises on Tuesday, culminating in the brutal murder of Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam. Given the timing of these incidents—amid heightened tensions over recent attacks on media houses and violent disruptions by college students—it is not unreasonable to think that a sinister force is pulling the strings to destabilise the country through orchestrated chaos, making it all the more important that we remain careful and act responsibly at all times.

On Tuesday, violence broke out outside the Chattogram Court Building when Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a controversial former ISKCON leader facing sedition charges for allegedly disrespecting the national flag, was denied bail. Reportedly, his followers confronted security officers and lawyers as he was about to be sent to jail, halting the prison van. Despite efforts to clear them, the protests persisted, and by late afternoon, law enforcement used stun grenades and batons to disperse the crowd. The situation quickly escalated into violent confrontations, leading to at least 37 individuals being injured, including 10 police officers. During the chaos, Saiful was fatally struck by lethal weapons. Several cars, motorcycles, and a lawyer's chamber were also vandalised.

It goes without saying that these developments have profound communal implications if left unaddressed. For a country that prides itself on a hard-won interfaith harmony, despite occasional provocations, these incidents represent a troubling rise in tensions that cannot be attributed solely to the fallen regime. Other vested interest groups maybe at play, as evidenced by reports about sections of the Indian media circulating false and inflammatory narratives—such as the erroneous claim that the slain advocate was Chinmoy's lawyer. Such misinformation, coupled with exaggerated claims about police handling of Hindu supporters, is clearly designed to deepen divisions. While it is reassuring that the public has largely resisted falling into communal traps so far, the need to be circumspect has never been more urgent.

The authorities' response to the crisis has been measured so far. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus condemned Saiful's murder and promised a thorough investigation, urging calm and nonviolence. Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan earlier clarified that Chinmoy's arrest was based on allegations of sedition, not his religious identity. Such messaging is essential in countering misinformation. Six suspects linked to the killing of Saiful have been arrested based on video footage, while 21 others were detained for vandalism and assaulting police officers during the unrest. Notably, Reuters reported that among those arrested were six members of Awami League, who police said were found in possession of improvised explosives.

As investigations continue, it is crucial to separate fact from fiction. Baseless allegations and communal scapegoating will only serve to exacerbate tensions. The interim government, along with political and religious leaders, must demonstrate their commitment to peace, reconciliation, and rule of law, ensuring that those responsible for Tuesday's violence, including provocateurs, are held accountable. Only through collective resolve and vigilance can we prevent divisive forces from derailing post-uprising Bangladesh.

HC seeks govt action on ISKCON clash, murder

The High Court on Wednesday directed the government to report on the actions taken regarding the killing of assistant public prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif, who was hacked to death during a violent clash on the Chattogram court premises on Tuesday.

The confrontation broke out as followers of former International Society for Krishna Consciousness leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, now spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, clashed with law enforcers.

The violence erupted after a Chattogram metropolitan magistrate rejected Chinmoy’s bail plea and ordered to send him to jail.

The bench Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury issued the directive verbally to attorney general Md Asaduzzaman, responding to lawyer Md Monir Uddin’s plea for judicial intervention.

Monir urged the court to ensure the arrest, fair investigation and prosecution of those responsible for his colleague’s death.

Monir Uddin also called for drastic measures, including a 15-day state of emergency in Dinajpur, Rangpur, and Chattogram, and a ban on ISKCON, which he alleged was involved in the killing.

He based his claims on media reports and said that the incident escalated following a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

Speaking to reporters, Monir said, ‘ISKCON activists killed my colleague, as reported in newspapers. If ISKCON is not banned, their actions will spiral out of control.’

He further claimed that tension between Muslims and Hindus could lead to broader communal violence.

Monir also accused ISKCON protesters of obstructing Chinmoy’s transfer to jail and suggested that India’s statement had provoked the violence.

‘In my personal opinion, my brother was killed due to this provocation,’ he added.

Attorney general Md Asaduzzaman briefed journalists later, clarifying that banning ISKCON is a government policy decision and beyond the High Court’s jurisdiction.

‘The lawyer’s plea is premature. The court should wait for the government’s actions on this matter,’ he said.

He also noted that the government would investigate whether ISKCON is a licensed organisation and assured the court that steps would be taken following the inquiry.

The High Court is expected to hear the government’s response today.

A legal notice, meanwhile, was served on the government authorities seeking ban on the ISKCON following Section 18 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, calling it as an extremist organisation.

Lawyer Al Mamun Rasel, on behalf of his 10 clients—who are all Supreme Court lawyers, served the notice to the secretaries of ministries of the law and the home and the inspector general of police through registered posts.

Indian media reports over slain lawyer were false: CA press wing
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha . Dhaka 27 November, 2024, 19:59

CA Press Wing Facts called false some Indian media reports over slain Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif claiming that he was representing Chinmoy Krishna Das.

In a Facebook post early Wednesday, it said some Indian media are claiming that lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was brutally murdered in Chattogram, was representing Chinmoy Krishna Das but the claim was false and was being spread with malafide intention.

‘The vakalatnama produced by Chinmoy Krishna Das to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court has shown that advocate Subasish Sharma is his lawyer. We request everyone to refrain from any provocative, false report,’ the post read.

Unwarranted Indian interference
28 November, 2024, 00:00

THIS is quite disconcerting that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Hindu nationalist government of India has expressed ‘concern’ about the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson of Sanatan Jagaran Mancha and a ‘former’ leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, or ISKCON, on specific charges of sedition. Moreover, the chief of the West Bengal BJP, Suvendu Adhikari, reportedly threatened Bangladesh the same day that the party would ‘block the Bangladesh-India border, if Chinmoy Das is not released.’ These are unwarranted interferences by Indian authorities with the internal affairs of Bangladesh and, that too, as the government of Bangladesh has already pointed out that day, on fabricated allegations, mostly propagated by a section of the communally oriented Indian media.

While ISKCON was banned in some countries on charges of terrorism, the Chinmoy-led Sanatan Jagaran Mancha has recently created troubles in society, in the name of upholding the interests of the minority community, palpably to destabilise the nascent government of Dr Muhammad Yunus, installed after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic government in the face of a students-led popular mass uprising. That Chinmoy’s religious preaching has hardly anything to do with the welfare of the Hindu community of Bangladesh was amply proved when he kept completely silent over various kinds of repression of the Hindu community by Hasina’s autocratic regime over the past 15 years. To give a couple of examples, Chinmoy kept silent over the much-talked-about brutal murder of a politically innocent Hindu young man, Biswajit Das, by the Awami League goons in 2012, and the forcible ouster of chief justice SK Sinha by the League regime in 2017, because of the former’s refusal to entertain Hasina’s unlawful desires. Evidently, the interests of Chinmoy’s Sanatan Jagaran Mancha and those of the patriotic Sanatani Hindus in Bangladesh are not the same.

However, we at New Age are aware that some Hindu citizens were exposed to troubles, some were arrested as well, after the ouster of the League regime, but we are also aware that most of them faced the troubles and arrests not because of their religious identity but, rather, their political identity, Awami League that is — the party that oppressed and harassed thousands of its opponents for years and finally conducted a massacre of the democratically oriented protesters in July–August. Like the Muslim leaders and activists of the autocratic Awami League, their Hindu counterparts were exposed to public wrath while both the government and the people stood by the politically innocent Hindus against any possible attacks by the criminals.

Under such circumstances, when the non-party interim government of Yunus is busy stabilising the post-mass uprising instability, this Chinmoy, and his Santan Jagaran Mancha, appeared on the scene with his palpably ill-intentioned communal issues, posing a threat to the traditional religious harmony in the Bangladesh society, forcing the government to take legal steps against him. Why should the Indian government be unhappy about that? Does the Indian Hindu nationalist government of the Bharatiya Janata Party want the post-Hasina Bangladesh to be exposed to communal disharmony, pushing the Hindu minorities into trouble in the Muslim majority Bangladesh? While Indian interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs is not welcome, the democratically oriented Bangladeshis must remain alert to any political design — local or foreign — of causing communal disharmony in the country.

Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, has demanded a ban on ISKCON as a “terrorist organization" and called for the immediate arrest — within 24 hours — of those responsible for the death of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif during yesterday’s clash in Chattogram City.

He made these remarks while speaking at the mourning rally organised after the funeral of Advocate Alif at the Tiger Pass intersection in the city on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Hasnat said, “We have not forgotten how ISKCON grew under the patronage of the Awami League over the last 16 years, and today, as a terrorist organisation, it is creating unrest in Bangladesh under India’s prescription by becoming an ally to fascism.”

“We want to say clearly, Indian bubu (sister)… Indian Hasina, you will no longer have a place in Bangladesh. No matter how many conspiracies are hatched in India, we, every person in Bangladesh, will defeat them,” he added.

He emphasised unity among people of all faiths and said extremist groups using religion for violence would not be tolerated, adding, “All religions will coexist in our country. We are united to protect everyone’s rights. But extremist organisations that operate in the name of religion will not be given any place in Bangladesh.”

Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation and member of the Nagorik Committee, said, “On the blood through which the new Bangladesh emerged and Sheikh Hasina fled.. these Chinmoys are inciting violence.”

“We want to tell everyone, just like we expelled Hasina from the country, expelling a terrorist group like ISKCON is like removing dirt from our hands,” said Sarjis.

A lawyer petitioned the High Court for banning the International Society for Krishna Consciousness or ISKCON in a sedition case, amid countrywide protests against the murder of a Chattogram advocate, and the HC ordered a state report on this matter.

The sedition case has been filed against expelled ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, also a spokesperson for the Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote, or United Sanatan Awakening Alliance, and the lawyer murder occurred Tuesday amid violent protests that followed during his court prosecution in the port city.

The High Court summoned the attorney-general to hear state opinion on the matter, initially asking for submission of a report within a day.

The lawyer lodged the petition along with a newspaper report at the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury on Wednesday.

Later, the attorney-general said he had told the court that it would not be appropriate to take any decision immediately.

"The government is seriously looking into this. Action is already being taken."

Regarding ISKCON, he told the court that the government will look into whether this organisation was registered, whether it could be banned, and what legal action could be taken against it and present it to the court.

The chief law officer sought a day for the information to be collected. The court later asked for a report by Thursday.

Chinmoy, a Hindu priest and a religious-minority leader in Bangladesh, has been advocating on behalf of the community across Bangladesh on an eight-point charter of demands.

He was arrested at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport by Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch on Monday. He was produced in a Chattogram court in a 'sedition' case around 10:45am on Tuesday amid tight security.

The court sent Chinmoy Krishna to jail, turning down his bail appeal, and it set off violent protests by his supporters.

Following the jail order, the protesters clashed with lawyers and others in the area, leaving lawyer Saiful Islam Alif dead and some others injured.

Lawyers in Chattogram went on a two-day strike on Wednesday to protest the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. The lawyers said the court activities remained suspended since morning and the lawyers gathered on the court premises to demand immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, two Namaj E Janaja for the slain Advocate Saiful Islam Alif was held on the court premises at 10 am and at Jamiatul Falah National Mosque ground at 11:30 am respectively. Thousands of people joined the namaz-e-janaza and protested the killing. A protest rally was staged where lawyers voiced their outrage and sought justice for their slain colleague.

Land Affairs Adviser AF Hassan Ariff, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami Chattogram Metropolitan Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, Russell Ahmed, and Talat Mahmud Rafi, joined thousands of people at the protest rally.

Later, leaders from various political parties and student coordinators described ISKCON as a "fundamentalist militant group" and demanded immediate ban on ISKCON's activities in Bangladesh. They warned of continued protests if their demands are not met.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested a number of persons as suspects in the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif. Six of them were identified through the video footage. Besides, CMP also arrested 21 people for vandalism and assaults on police during clashes on Tuesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR and Media) of CMP Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz said, "CMP has detained at least six as suspects over the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. They were identified through video footage. The CMP has also detained 21 people for vandalism and assaults on police during clashes on Tuesday."

Students of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday night staged a protest demanding a ban on ISKCON over the heinous murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram.

The protest was organized by the 'Dhaka University Student Association of Lohagara-Satkania' at 9:30 PM at the VC square of DU.

Students of Jagannath University on Tuesday night condemned the brutal killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif and demanded an immediate ban of the Hindu nationalist organization ISKCON.

They accused the hardliner Hindu organization of threatening the country's sovereignty and engaging in extremist activities.

During a protest march that concluded with a rally at 9:30 pm, the students raised slogans such as "Ban ISKCON now," "No place for ISKCON in our Bengal," and "Break the black hands of ISKCON."
