You can find the exact equivalent of these Romas in India. They are Banjaras. For centuries they have remained the same. No change at all. They dislike settling. It is antithetical to their nomadic philosophy of detachment from land.

The most plausible theory is that these groups, who are sort of skilled at handicrafts (pottery, tool making, swordsmithy etc) were considered useful by invading armies, and they moved along with them. Some groups moved with retreating Turkish and Persian armies and reached Anatolia, from where they further moved northwest into Bulgaria, Romania and Eastern Europe.

yes, idhar Dilli mein ghar ke pass is a street full of these caravan people, gorgeous pottery etc but the cops keep a strict vigil on them.. bc even auto drivers warn passengers, ki aap apna mobile, wallet, purse etc sambhal ke rakho.. these little kids are expert level 100 chors

and if you dare fight, they dont shy away from knifing you.. bad scene.
