Pakistan's envoy to Kyrgyzstan Hasan Zaigham urges students in Kyrgyzstan's main city to "stay indoors until the situation returns to normal."
It was not immediately clear what sparked the mob violence in the Kyrgyz capital.

Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek have been targeted by violent mobs, according to multiple testimonies and videos on social media, promoting Islamabad's envoy to the country to urge students to stay indoors.
"In view of mob violence around student hostels in Bishkek, the embassy strongly advise all Pakistani students in Bishkek to stay indoors until the situation return to normal," Pakistan's ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Hasan Zaigham wrote on X, formerly Twitter, early on Saturday.
"We are liaising with the local law enforcement authorities to ensure safety of our student fraternity."
It was not immediately clear what sparked the mob violence in the Kyrgyz capital.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Pakistani Foreign Office spokeswoman, said the embassy was in contact with the Kyrgyz authorities and has responded to hundreds of queries from distressed students and their families.
"There have been a number of incidents of mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek since last evening. According to the Kyrgyz press, the matter boiled over yesterday due to sharing online of videos of a fight between Kyrgyz students and medical students from Egypt on 13th of May," Pakistani embassy in Bishkek said in a statement.

"So far, a few hostels of medical universities in Bishkek and private residences of international students including Pakistanis have been attacked. The hostels are inhabited by students from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh," it said.
"There have been reports of light injuries to a number of students from Pakistan. Despite social media posts about alleged death and rape of Pakistani students, so far, we have not received any confirmed report," the statement added.
Pakistan's PM Shehbaz Sharif, meanwhile, expressed deep concern over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, saying he has directed Pakistan's ambassador to Kyrgyzstan "to provide all necessary help and assistance."

It is pertinent to note that Kyrgyzstan is a favored destination for education, particularly in the medical field, attracting numerous students from the Indian subcontinent, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

As of April 2023, data from various medical universities in Kyrgyzstan shows that around 9,500 students are currently pursuing their studies there, a government report said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
The Pakistan embassy mentioned that the situation intensified after videos of a fight between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students on May 13 went viral online on Friday. The mob targeted hostels of medical universities in Bishkek, where students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh reside.

[h2]'Indian students in Kyrgyzstan'[/h2]External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday stated that the Indian government is monitoring the welfare of Indians students in Bishkek amid mob violence targeting international students erupted Kyrgyzstan's capital city.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar wrote, "Monitoring the welfare of Indian students in Bishkek. Situation is reportedly calm now. Strongly advise students to stay in regular touch with the Embassy."
The students have also been advised to "stay indoors". Currently, the Indian embassy in Kyrgyz Republic is in contact with the students.
"We are in touch with our students. The situation is presently calm but students are advised to stay indoors for the moment and get in touch with the Embassy in case of any issue…," it said.

[h2]'Pakistani students in Bishkek'[/h2]Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced "deep concerns" about the situation in Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek and stated that he has instructed the country's envoy there to "provide all necessary help and assistance" to the students.
"Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed Pakistan's Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance. My office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Some social media posts claimed that three Pakistani students were killed in the attack, but the government stated they have not received any reports of fatalities.

Anybody watching da updates here?….we should launch shaheen mayzile on these basturds right away. Some of our boyz on da record said that they had nuthin to do wid dis nonsense. Egyptians had a fight wid da local kyrghiz thugs who would snatch wallets and cellphones from them here n there, but now it’s like kyrghiz thugs and their backers da Russian mafia goons vs all international students. Thousands of our students caught up in mob/ thug violence. Shehbaz better warn this chutiya country that this violence against our students is unacceptable!
