Still does not invalidate the fact that 70-80% of the API raw materials that Indian pharma uses is imported from China.

China can raise API prices unilaterally or even block them from Indian shores - killing Indian Pharma. And this is without the double whammy of Trump's threatened tariffs for Indian Pharma imports to the US.

Pharma Industry insiders in India are all unanimous about it - and you are not.

Is this a vulnerability for India - yes or no?

@Jiangnan what do Chinese API manufacturing insiders say about it?

It is very surprising that you want to give all credit to raw material suppliers while but not to the nation who makes quality drugs. Most of Raw material is imported from China because of cost factor. If China is so great than why the quality of Chinese drugs are not so great and China is not considered as the pharmacy of the world.

Leaders of a country have a responsibility to ensure that the economy which they manage is not inconvenienced, much less ruined.

If this tariff war continues - Modi having "spine and confidence to handle US" will mean little. One is the world's leading superpower and another is a 3rd world country (though large). All the US has to do is tell every G7 country to stop importing Indian products+labor+talent (which they have just started doing). India's fate will be sealed.

Why is it so difficult to understand the client-provider relationship. Think!

Over-confidence and hubris leads to ruination.

It seems that you have a great insight into economy. By the way we have claimed to 4 th position from 10 th position in 11 years and shall be no 3 in couple of years. IMF has predicted India to be a 55 Tr USD economy by 2047.

We do have everything in our control. We are reducing AIP import to half. We are building Desi capacity in each and every sector.

AIP import to half
Please wake me up when India's AIP import is actually reduced to half. I will be in sleep for a decade - like RIP VAN WINKLE....

It's not like you wish for Dilli ka Laddoo and then have it in your hand.

Producing AIP needs investments and commitment.

Which your industrialists are not willing to make.

Now I believe that you are wake up after reading the bellow references.

Producing key API was never a challenge. most of them were made in India but not in sufficient quantity. Now we have boosted production. We used to import it from China because it was cheap and not because we can not produce.

Read Bellow.
India has started manufacturing 38 APIs in past 1.5 years: Mansukh Mandaviya

This is the reason why I love this guy. He has never let the nation down. No matter what is the issue or who are enemies, he has made them surrender. He made Xi lick back his spit. Now Trump is licking back his spit. US delegation arrived for trade negotiation.

India and the US are seeking to resolve differences and hammer out trade deal, talks for which fell apart after Donald Trump slapped 50% US tariffs on India.

The US and India are stepping up talks to resolve their trade tensions, with two separate teams of officials meeting in New Delhi this week.

A US trade delegation led by Brendan Lynch, assistant trade representative for South and Central Asia, was scheduled to arrive in India on Monday night for a day of talks. US defence officials and Boeing Co. executives are also due in India this week to negotiate the sale of about $4 billion of naval surveillance aircraft.

The two sides are seeking to resolve their differences after President Donald Trump slapped India with a 50% tariff last monthโ€”the highest in Asiaโ€”to penalise the country for its trade barriers and Russian oil purchases.

New Delhi is responding to the visits with cautious optimism, indicating that more needs to be done to reset ties. The US and India had previously committed to a bilateral agreement to be completed by the fall of this year.

Itโ€™s unclear how the two sides will resolve the issue of Indiaโ€™s purchases of Russian oil, which Trump says is helping President Vladimir Putin finance his war in Ukraine. Trump has separately proposed Group of Seven nations should increase tariffs on China and India, the biggest buyers of Russian oil.
Trump has said he will speak with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks. Modiโ€™s officials have repeatedly said they will continue to purchase Russian oil as long as it is financially viable.

Even though India was among the first nations to start trade talks with the Trump administration, the two sides failed to reach a deal after five rounds of discussions. New Delhiโ€™s ties with Moscow and its refusal to open dairy and agriculture markets are among the reasons the talks have stalled.
