An angry mob in Pakistan accused a woman who wore a dress adorned with Arabic calligraphy of blasphemy, after mistaking them for Quran verses.

She was saved by police who escorted her to safety after hundreds gathered. She later gave a public apology.

The dress has the word "Halwa" printed in Arabic letters on it, meaning beautiful in Arabic.

Blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistan. Some people have been lynched even before their cases go on trial.

Police told the BBC they first received a call at about 13:10 local (08:10 GMT) on Sunday that a crowd had gathered around a woman at a restaurant in Lahore, the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab.

Around 300 people had crowded outside the restaurant by the time they arrived, said Assistant Superintendent Syeda Shehrbano.

Videos of the scene circulated on social media, with one showing a woman, visibly scared, sitting in the far corner of the restaurant, shielding her face with her hand.

In another, she is surrounded by officers, who had formed the only barrier between her and a growing crowd who were shouting for her to remove the shirt. In some videos, people can be heard chanting that those who blaspheme must be beheaded.

Footage shared on social media shows Ms Shehrbano standing at the restaurant's entrance, trying to restore order to an increasingly charged crowd.

That is true.
That Kuwaiti company which created this dress has issued a statement online on their webpage that this is an Arabic dress and that they don't want Al-Baqistani to purchase it. After this ugly incident, they understand where our jahl awaam is on an economic/ civilizational/ social/ cultural/ IQ level. The two sikh lookin bazari mulla who instigated this stunt have unofficially quipped/ admitted that they did it otherwise there ain't no religious dhanda (business), or else they ain't got jack shitt left to make money on. In other words our ghareeb awaam is starving......they don't got a future, and every man n his dog looking at anything to hold onto or instigate or concoct some drama to survive.....Any other excuse for this drama is a farce. We need to face our economic demons and how our country is on da cusp of an implosion. If somebody is smart in our so called chutiya establishment, he must recognize dat we need to involve Iran n turkey on a social/ cultural level in our society to make it right. Put turkish/ Irani mulla and empower them to influence our jahl khotay no? Iran/ Turkey don't got these chutiya problems right?......They are far ahead as in two generations ahead of us bewquff hendu-pak converts.

Would you have the source to the comment by the Kuwaiti company?

At first I thought the site was just basic Indian propaganda but after having read it, it truly is as you say. Such as shame.

We need to really enforce our writ on the urban jahl amongst us in Pakistani cities. Some badmash khota can't just say k tussi kafr ho cuz yous displayed some muslim art dat don't conform to my hendu-pak dalit convert background. This is a serious problem now. Many Pakistani's have said that this was a stage managed/ manufactured event to generate a reactionary outcome.

Oh bhai forget dis stupid incident.....hum as pakistani kya karain ab?......Obviously our harami hendu-pak mulla are incompetent/ criminal no? Should we request Iran n Turkey to help us out?......they don't got this jahalat right? What do we do? Arbi mulla we don't want.....you can see what that's done over da last 60 odd years no?

If anybody is paying attention among our expat Pakistani community at least, I want them to see 5 years/ decade down da road. What is happening in India today, this is inevitable for our ghareeb awaam just up the road. India will establish its hegemony over us, and its almost a certainty now. I just want Iran n Turkey to get involved, otherwise bhai, there is/ was no point for us to exist as a separate nation. Jo India aaj apnay musalmano k saath ker ra hae......this is what India will do to our country, no point going into denial....... if they browbeat us into submission, which they've largely succeeded in doing. I hope Khamenei sahb is watching all dis nonsense and Erdogan sahb too paying attention to our dilemma. I just don't trust our Jharrnail anymore:

They've done a great deal to "help" us with Erdogan's government funding religious schools in our country apparently. Iran has done worse by radicalizing our Shia population, not to mention Saudi Arabia.

Islam in the sub-continent is a separate religion of its own. Then you have tribal people, who have their own version, too. There is no universal Islam, theologically. It never was. Finally, you have people who actually practise 'Jahilyat' but calling it Islam.
