The Bangladesh Navy has apprehended two foreign fishing trawlers and 31 individuals for illegally entering the country’s waters.

The vessels were seized on Tuesday afternoon by the warship BNS Shahid Akhtar Uddin during a routine patrol in the Bay of Bengal, near Kuakata, as reported by the ISPR on Wednesday.

All detainees are foreign nationals and have been transferred to the Kalapara Police Station, where legal proceedings are underway.

However, the Navy has not disclosed details about the detainees.

To deter foreign incursions and illegal activities in Bangladesh's waters, the Navy is conducting extensive surveillance operations with 13 ships, including the Shahid Akhtar Uddin, in the sea, alongside 10 ships in river areas and maritime patrol aircraft.

This operation aims to safeguard the country’s fisheries resources and territorial waters in the Bay of Bengal, ISPR added.

BN and BCG needs to employ surveillance drones over our EEZ. It’s cheap and effective and also employ our fishermen as lookout for foreign intruders.

Once apprehended repatriate the ppl but confiscate the ships and sell them to fund ongoing surveillance.

It will deter intrusions very quickly.

Since they don't have drones, they are relying on OPV, patrol crafts, Maritime Patrol Aircrafts and even corvettes.

The Bangladesh Navy has detained 214 displaced Myanmar nationals attempting to illegally enter Malaysia from the deep sea.

The group was arrested on Tuesday after being found aboard a fishing trawler, “FV Kulsuma”, during a routine patrol in the Bay of Bengal, reports bdnews24.com.

According to a media statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the detainees include 118 men, 68 women, and 28 children.

They were aboard the trawler, which had departed from the Shaplapur area of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar at 2am on Tuesday, with the intention of reaching Malaysia.

The Navy vessel “BNS Durjoy” intercepted the trawler 44 nautical miles southwest of St Martin’s Island, after noticing suspicious movement.

The statement also noted that the trawler lacked essential life-saving equipment, adequate food, water, and safety measures, posing a serious risk of a humanitarian disaster in the deep sea.

The detainees, all of whom are displaced Myanmar nationals, were handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard Station in Saint Martin's for legal action.
