Eid special ‘Ityadi’​

Popular television host Hanif Sanket is going to bring four noted actors -Shahiduzzaman Selim, Azizul Hakim, Saberi Alam and Al Mamun together in a musical drama for his popular TV magazine, ‘Ityadi’. They will be present in the Eid edition of ‘Ityadi’, said a press release.

These four actors will play the role of elderly guardians in the drama. The narration-based drama will centre around a plot where their children fall victim to different traps, as they didn’t adhere to their elders’ wisdom.

Hanif Sanket is directing another musical drama featuring Intekhab Dinar and Sarika Subrin.

The actors, who will portray the roles of husband and wife, will be taking part in a fictional conflict regarding Eid in the drama.

While talking Eid special ‘Ityadi’, Hanif Sanket told media, “Audiences will love both the production.”

It is noted that ‘Ityadi’ is the longest-running magazine programme in the country, which still captivates its audience with its satiric, comedic, yet timely and relevant content.

Adding to these sketches, ‘Ityadi’ will also feature late musician Khalid Hasan Milu’s two sons – Protic Hasan and Pritom Hasan in a folk and contemporary song.

Conceptualised, directed and also presented by Hanif Sanket, this year’s Eid special ‘Ityadi’ segment in continuation of their 34 years on screen.

The programme is produced by Fagun Audio Vision.

Like every year, this Eid’s special ‘Ityadi’ will be aired on BTV and BTV World the day after Eid-ul-Fitr as part of the Eid special programmes.​
 

Special TV guide to celebrate Independence Day​

The commemoration of Independence Day holds profound significance for the people of Bangladesh, as it marks the culmination of a hard-fought struggle for freedom. Television channels across the nation are set to honour this historic occasion with a diverse array of programmes, offering viewers a blend of entertainment, reflection, and remembrance.

At the forefront of the day's schedule on ATN Bangla is a compelling documentary titled "Muktijuddher Itihash" at 10:30am. Directed by Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, this documentary serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals in the quest for independence.

Later in the evening, viewers can tune in to an intriguing talk show at 8pm titled, "Bangabandhu and Bangladesh", directed by Moshtak Hossain, offering insights into the visionary leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. For the audience turning to ATN Bangla, the day concludes with the gripping drama "Bodh" at 8:50pm, directed by Shokal Ahmed and penned by Yousuf Ali Khokon.

RTV will air a special drama titled "Oshomapto", at 8pm, directed by Tuhin Hossen and written by Sarwar Reza Jimmy, starring Afran Nisho and Mehazabien Chowdhury. This emotionally charged narrative follows the protagonist, Munir, as he grapples with personal dilemmas amidst the turbulence of the Liberation War. Through Munir's journey, viewers can reflect on the intertwining of love, duty, and national identity during times of crisis.

Channel i has to offer a day-long celebration of Independence Day too, starting with patriotic songs at 7:30am, followed by an Independence Day special episode of "Tritiyo Matra" at 9:45am. Viewers can also enjoy the premiere of the Bengali film "Dushshahoshi Khoka", directed by Mushfikur Rahman Guljar.

The evening culminates with the airing of the emotionally charged drama "Adhare Abha", written and directed by Noor Imran Mithu, and at 10:30pm a special programme will air titled, "Biponno Prokkriti 1971", directed and hosted by Muqeed Majumdar Babu.

Boishakhi TV invites viewers to immerse themselves in a day of festivities, featuring a variety of programmes including songs, performances, and dramas. Highlights include the morning program "Janmobhumi", at 7:45am, featuring popular songs celebrating the homeland. At 9:10am " Music Album" will air featuring patriotic songs from old movies. A special drama "Birangona", will air at 10pm, directed by Shuddhoman Chaitan. Based on Tipu Alam Milon's story, the script written by Anan Zaman pays tribute to the courage of women during the Liberation War. The drama features Aparna Ghosh, Rawnak Hasan, Manoj Pramanik, Riya Khan, Monir Zaman and Sanjida Shila, among others.

Bangla Vision will air a special programme titled "Muktijuddher Shei Shob Dinguli", at 11:25pm, featuring esteemed guests Major General (Retd) Helal Morshed Khan Bir Bikram and Lt General (Retd) M Harun Ar Rashid Bir Protik. Hosted by Dinath Jahan Munni, this programme offers a poignant reflection on the sacrifices and triumphs of the liberation struggle.

As the nation comes together to commemorate Independence Day, these special programmes on various television channels serve as poignant reminders of the sacrifices made and the resilience displayed during the quest for freedom. Through documentaries, dramas, discussions, and songs, viewers are invited to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and envision a future guided by the ideals of liberty and unity.​
 

BTV returns with popular Eid band show 'Musical Express'

In a celebration of musical talent and cultural fervour, Bangladesh Television (BTV) is set to captivate audiences once again with the revival of its popular Eid band show, titled "Musical Express" this year. As a long-standing tradition, BTV has been organising special events featuring live bands during the Eid festival, and this year promises to be no exception.

The event is structured into three segments. Expectations are high as the lineup boasts performances from the nation's popular contemporary bands, including Obscure, Joler Gaan, and Chirkutt, alongside several other promising acts.

On the day of Eid, audiences can anticipate a solo performance by Chirkutt, according to BTV's programme department sources. The excitement doesn't stop there, as the second day promises musical performances by Obscure, Nakshi Kantha, Baul Express, and Arbovirus. Finally, wrapping up the festivities with a crescendo of melodies, Joler Gaan will take centre stage on the third day.

The musical spectacle is scheduled to grace screens across the nation at 7pm every day throughout the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr.​
 

Mosharraf Karim, Tanha Tasnia duo set record with nine Eid dramas

Popular actors Mosharraf Karim and Tanha Tasnia are gearing up for a record-breaking Eid-ul-Fitr this year.

The duo will be seen together in a whopping nine dramas spreading joy and entertaining audiences during the festive season, said a press release.

All these nine dramas have been directed by Taifur Jahan Asik. The dramas are: 'Bari Gari Nari', 'Bou Setting', 'Ami Nervous', 'Foreign Lover' written by Al Amin Swapon, 'Swapno Jabe Bari', 'Paonadar', 'Chirokumar Sangrokkhon', 'Sotti Bolte Chai' written by Sujit Biswas and 'Chakrijibi Bou' written by Harun Rusho.

This collaboration marks a unique achievement in Bangladeshi television.

While talking in this regard, Tanha Tasnia expressed her excitement. She said, "This Eid, 10 of my works will be aired, including a series. But most importantly, I got to work opposite Mosharraf Karim Bhai in all the dramas. It's a great thing for me to work with him in so many projects for Eid."

Tanha Tasnia went on to praise Mosharraf, calling him her favourite co-star.

She said, "Working with him (Mosharraf Karim) is always special. He's a lively co-artiste, very helpful. During shooting, I even got an ulcer, and he constantly checked on my health, taking care of me like an elder brother. I learned a lot from him; he gave some fantastic tips."

Director Taifur Jahan Asik, the mastermind behind these dramas, said, "Even though I've directed nine dramas with the same pair, there's diversity in the story and characters."

He assured viewers that these Eid dramas will cater to various tastes.

Mosharraf Karim echoed Tanha Tasnia's sentiments, highlighting the unique aspect of their collaboration.

He said, "It's remarkable to have nine dramas featuring a single pair air on Eid. Tasnia has done a great job. She is very serious about bringing out her character. We all worked as a team, creating a family-like atmosphere on set. The focus was on entertaining the audience. Eid greetings to everyone, and please watch our dramas."
The director confirmed that these nine dramas will be aired on various platforms throughout Eid.​

Robiul Shikdar

Small screen director Robiul Shikdar has said that he likes to remind the audience that in the face of betrayal, people can become stronger than ever before.

'I think that betrayal never comes from enemies; it comes from people closest to us,' Robiul Shikdar told New Age, mentioning, 'I would like to say that trust should be earned and never taken for granted.'

The director also said that he would like to give the message to the society that in the face of betrayal, people have the power to rise above and become stronger than ever before.

Robiul Shikdar is scheduled to offer five teleplays on the forthcoming Eid to audiences' taste.

The productions are Matia Banu Shuku-written 'Priyo Mayurakshi' and 'Sacrifice', 'Ahsan Alamgir-written Amra Boka Na' and 'Mental Jamai' and Saifur Rahman Kajol-written 'Juta Chor Mokbul'.

'During the Eid celebration, people like to have a good time watching programmes. I have directed five small screen productions, which will be aired different channels on the Eid,' he said.

Robiul earned acclaim for his works, including Abalamban, Moylar Mor, Balighar, Chhaichapa Agun, Anchal, Rumal O Bhalobasa and Moner Guptachar.

'Sacrifice' revolves around the relationship between two friends. It depicts that not everyone can stand the test of time. AKM Hasan, Sazu Khadem, Arpa and ABM Saidul Haque have played different roles in the production.

'Friends are incredibly important in our lives. The two friends in the teleplay have also an intimate friendship. But, one of them decides to grab the other friend's property,' he said.

He also spoke about the production 'Mental Jamai', which stars Zayer Alvi, Masum Bashar, Tithi, Sabina, Tuhin Reza and Anwar in different roles.

'Although the country's Dowry Prohibition Act prohibits the giving or the receiving of dowry, grooms torture their wives for dowry,' he mentioned.

'Amra Boka Na' revolves around two friends. AKM Hasan, Pran Roy, Arpa, Zidan Sarkar, ABM Saidul Haque have portrayed diferent roles in the production.

'There are a lot of people around us who simply believe people. I hope that viewers will be moved by the production,' he hoped.

Robiul Shikdar received the Best Director Award at the Pune International Film Festival for his work titled 'CNG Driver'. Apart from this, his work titled 'Kagojer Manush' has been awarded at the Paradox International Short Film Festival and Nexgn International Short Film Festival in India.​
 

Foreign segment of Eid Ityadi depicts problems of marginal farmers

For more than two decades, Hanif Sanket has been regularly portraying our folk culture, history and traditions with foreigners who live in Bangladesh. Initially, the issue was limited to 10 or 12 foreigners, but now it sometimes reaches hundreds.

And through these foreigners, our culture is spreading to different parts of the world. Folk culture, rural superstitions, various inconsistencies, social problems, rural sports, and others are presented throughout the segment.

In this Eid special episode of Ityadi, foreigners who are working in different embassies and foreign organisations in Bangladesh, will portray the characters of the village people of Bangladesh and give a social awareness message through their drama, said a press release.

'Ityadi' has gained popularity internationally, and this time citizens from different countries, including the USA, Australia, Japan, Germany, Italy, China, Ireland, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, and others have performed in this segment. This episode is about the ferocity of middlemen in the marketing of agricultural products in the market and the various problems of marginal farmers. Along with this, there is a dance with foreign participation in a song.

Hanif Sanket said, "The emotional bond that is formed with foreigners after only a few days of acquaintance is never to be forgotten. They are not professionals, but many professional artistes also have a lot to learn from them. I am especially impressed by the punctuality, devotion, concentration, patience, and sincerity of the foreigners. Since the audience liked this episode a lot, we tried our best to make the episode
effective. Hopefully, like every time, the audience will love the episode."

Tahsan and Mithila to reunite on screen

Popular actors Rafiath Rashid Mithila and Tahsan Khan are returning to the screen together in the web-series "Baji". Helmed by "Matir Projar Deshe" famed director, Arifur Rahman, the series is expected to premiere its first seven episodes on an OTT platform during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Though the cast and crew have not officially announced details, sources close to the production confirmed to The Daily Star that Tahsan and Mithila have been preparing for their respective roles for several months now. Alongside these beloved actors, several other prominent stars will also feature in the series.

Confirming the progression of the series, the sources stated that shooting for the first phase of the seven-episode series had already been completed at a hotel in the capital a couple of months ago. The production team is gearing up for the next phase of shooting.

In the series, Tahsan portrays the character of a cricketer, while Mithila is taking on the role of a journalist.

Tahsan Khan and Rafiath Rashid Mithila have been popular figures in the industry both individually and as a former real-life couple. After years of courtship, they tied the knot on August 3, 2007. However, they officially and amicably separated in May 2017.

Despite their separation, Tahsan and Mithila have continued to collaborate in acting and singing. Their on-screen chemistry has been appreciated in dramas like "Amar Golpe Tumi", "Mr & Mrs", and "Landphoner Din Gulote Prem" amongst others.

On another note, Mithila has garnered widespread acclaim for her portrayal in the film "O Abhagi," which is based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's story of the same name.

Directed by Anirban Chakraborty, the film was released in West Bengal on March 31. Mithila played the lead role in the movie, receiving accolades for her portrayal.​
 

What to watch on TV today

International Labour Day today (May 1) commemorates the rights of labourers worldwide. To mark this occasion, a special discussion programme will delve into the significance of Labor Day and its impact on Bangladesh, amongst other topics. Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan, will serve as the guest speaker. Hosted by Nuzhat Sowm and produced by Abu Hanif, this special episode of the programme "Din Protidin" is scheduled to air on Banglavision today at 8:30am.

On the other hand, Duronto TV is hosting a special dance show titled "Nongor Tolo Tolo". Dancers from Nandan Kala Kendra will be showcasing their talents with mass music under the choreography of MR Wasek. The dancers include Puspita, Arpita, Imi, Piu, Ira, Arjan, Mahmuda, Shrestha, Labiba, Silva, Sadia, Sijan, Sifat, Samodeep, Rimi, Sinthi, and Tandra. Directed by Partha Pratim Halder, the show will be broadcast today at 12pm.

Banglavision will additionally be celebrating the day with a special programme called "Kathfata Rod Sheke Chamra". This programme aims to commemorate the day and shed light on the importance of labour rights. Jatiya Sramik League President Noor Kutub Alam Mannan and Garment Workers Trade Union Centre (GWTUC) President Joly Talukder will appear as guests here. The panellists will discuss the significance of International Workers' Day and its relevance in Bangladesh. They will delve into topics such as fair demands, proper recognition, and the rights of workers.

Recited and hosted by Shakila Matin Mridula and produced by Rafiqul Islam Farooqui, "Kathfata Rod Sheke Chamra" will be aired today at 5:10pm.​
 

Shimana's 14-day battle ends, actress passes away

After battling for life for 14 days at the hospital, Rista Laboni Shimana passed away today due to severe brain hemorrhage complications. The 39-year-old actress breathed her last around 6am. She was admitted to the hospital on May 20 after suffering a brain bleed, and had been unconscious for the past 14 days. Ejaz Bin Ali, Shimana's brother, confirmed the news of her passing. She leaves behind her husband and two sons: eight-year-old Shreshtho and three-year-old Sworgo. According to the family, Shimana fell suddenly ill on the night of May 21. Around 11:30pm, she was rushed to a private hospital in Dhanmondi, where it was discovered that she had suffered from a brain haemorrhage.

The following day, she was transferred to another hospital in Dhanmondi for better treatment. Eventually, on doctors' advice, she was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital's Agargaon.

She remained there for several days, undergoing brain surgery on May 27. Last Wednesday, she was moved to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) last Wednesday (May 29) for further treatment.

Shimana's journey in the entertainment industry began in 2006 when she gained recognition through the Lux-Channel i Superstar competition. She has since been a regular in television dramas and commercials and has appeared in films.

However, she took a six-year hiatus starting in 2016 due to family commitments, returning to the screen only last year.
 

BTV's 'Anandamela' to feature wedding-themed performances

BTV's "Anandamela", famous for bringing together celebrities, has come up with a unique theme for this Eid. This year, Sazu Khadem and Rukaiya Jahan Chamak will host the show as a newlywed couple.

The special Eid-ul-Azha Anandamela programme will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television (BTV) during the day of Eid-ul-Azha, after the airing of the channel's 10pm English news.

According to BTV sources, the makers have created a wedding-like set to showcase a pretend wedding between the hosts. Artistes who have performed for this year's celebrations come in as " wedding guests" to deliver their respective performances.

For instance, Ziaul Hoque Polash and Parsa Evana enter together and exchange funny banter with the hosts. However, a cinematic wedding is incomplete without a villain—Dhallywood's popular hero Misha Sawdagar's entry scares everyone. Following this, Solaiman Shukhon and Dana Bhai join the celebration.

After that, singers Kona, Shafi Mondol, and Mahtim Shakib deliver a beautiful musical performance for the pretend wedding. Atiya Anisha performs the song "Cholo Niralai". Glamorous actress Puja Chery also grooves to popular music while twin brothers Shoumya Joyti and Dibya Joyti also attend the wedding.

No wedding is complete without the presence of veteran artistes so Mamunur Rashid, Abul Hayat, and Dilara Zaman, come in and share memorable stories about their own married lives.

Additionally, the programme's arrangement includes a special performance by Joler Gaan.

Mehazabien Chowdhury, who is winning the hearts of audiences with her fantastic performances on OTT platforms, will soon be entering the world of cinema.

The actress, once a popular face on television, has stepped away from TV dramas and is now rarely seen on the small screen. Her last drama, "Anonna", directed by Mostafa Kamal Raz, was released on December 16 last year on the Cinemawala YouTube channel.

Recently, the actress completed shooting for her upcoming film titled "Tithi Door", which is slated for release on Eid-ul-Azha. Mehazabien played the role of Nishat, and the shooting, which took place in Dhaka, was finished by June 10.

In an interview with Prothom Alo, the actress revealed what drew her to the script. She was originally scheduled to shoot the drama last Eid but was unable to complete it due to unforeseen circumstances. This Eid, however, she was determined to tell the story, believing it would play an important role in raising awareness among audiences.

"Many people around us are suffering from various problems, and some are becoming depressed because of it. This kind of despair can spread among people. By sharing such stories, people can learn and gain awareness. The story is very relevant for the present time," said the actress.

The actress also went on to reveal how this problems can lead to frustration at one stage, which eventually pushes people to contemplate suicide. "We want to create awareness as to how this disease can affect the family and society," said Mehazabien.

The "Sabrina" actress feels that this is an important issue for all, particularly for women. "Every individual has a tendency to contemplate suicide at some point of time due to depression. This is an issue that needs to be talked about," revealed the artiste.

When asked why she works on dramas after large intervals, the actress revealed that she now prefers to work only on fiction with unique storylines.

"From now on, I want to work like this. Earlier, I worked on different types of stories. Even now, I want to work on stories that haven't been told before. If I get the perfect script, I will surely work on it. If I get such good stories in the future, I will definitely work on 1-2 projects for sure," asserted the actress.

Although the actress has reduced her work in dramas, she is actively involved in web-films and series. Recently, she also completed work on a web-film. The production house will soon announce the film's name, director, release date, and other details.​
 

Three Bangladeshi dramas being filmed in Korea

South Korea, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and picturesque locations, has long captivated the hearts of travelers and filmmakers alike. The country's natural beauty serves as a stunning backdrop, drawing directors from around the world to capture its essence on film.

Amid this captivating scenery, director Hasan Rezaul has embarked on a creative endeavour, to film three dramas in the heart of South Korea.

Accompanied by Yash Rohan and Tania Brishty, the team arrived there on August 13. The filming is now well underway, with the team fully immersed in the captivating surroundings that South Korea so beautifully offers.

The dramas being filmed in South Korea include "Love Lock" and "Mone Pore Tomake", both penned and scripted by Ahmed Tawkir, as well as "Reflection of Love," written by Tanim Rahman.

The shooting locations span across Seoul, Jeongseon, and the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

Ahmed Tawkir shared that "Love Lock" and "Mone Pore Tomake" are romantic stories. Having previously received positive feedback for his female-centric stories, Tawkir expressed hope that audiences will find these new romantic dramas both refreshing and enjoyable.

Reportedly, these dramas will first be aired on various private TV channels before being released on YouTube.​
 

Masud Ali Khan no more

Ekushey Padak-winning veteran artiste Masud Ali Khan passed away today at his home in the Green Road area, confirmed a relative of his to The Daily Star. The beloved actor died at 5:20pm, according to his official death certificate.

His relative further informed that his wife had served him lunch around noon, and upon checking on him around 4pm, she found him unresponsive. Doctors arrived shortly after and pronounced him dead.

Masud Ali Khan had stepped away from acting some time ago. As a founding member of the country's first theatre troupe, Drama Circle, his contributions to stage, television, film, and radio are invaluable. Through his performances in countless timeless productions, he earned widespread admiration from audiences.

He gained nationwide recognition for his performance in the BTV drama "Kul Nai Kinar Nai". He made his film debut with "Nadi O Nari" and went on to appear in numerous films, including "Jonakir Alo", "Dipu Number 2", "Matir Moina", "Dui Duari", and "Molla Barir Bou".

He also became a household name through his roles in the iconic drama series "Kothao Keu Nei" and "Ei Sob Din Ratri". Additionally, he appeared in popular series such as "Ekanno Borti", "69", and "Poush Phaguner Pala".

Masud Ali Khan is survived by his wife and two children. He will be laid to rest on Friday after Jummah prayers in his ancestral village of Paril, Singiar upazila, Manikganj district.​
