A police vehicle assigned to the security of a polio team in Khyber-Paktunkhwa's Tank was attacked by militants in the Gulda Khala area of the district on Thursday.
Police officials said the vehicle belonged to DSP Syed Marjan and all personnel remained safe in the attack.
In a separate encounter in K-P, three terrorists were killed by the police in retaliatory firing as the militants opened fire after being stopped at a checkpoint.
Police said the checkpoint was established after receiving a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. It was the same area from where Additional Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat was abducted earlier.
Nine hand grenades, AK-47 assault rifles, magazines, mobile phones, and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists' possession.
Landmine blast in Balochistan
Several people were injured in two landmine explosions in Balochistan in the Dukki district of the province.
According to the police, the first mine exploded on a track and the second exploded after people gathered at the spot. The injured were shifted to the nearest hospital for medical assistance and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Earlier, the District Health Authority (DHA) acquired the services of the police department to provide security to polio workers so that they accompany them in sensitive areas to administer drops to children during the seven-day anti-polio drive.
To implement the anti-polio campaign plan, 3,675 mobile teams, 330 fixed centres, 163 transit centres, and 245 UC MOs participated in the anti-polio drive.
Punjabโs Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested nine terrorists following 71 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across the province, the law enforcement agency said in a statement on Saturday.
The CTD regularly carries out operations across the province to prevent and investigate terrorism-related activities and gather intelligence. Operating under the provincial police department, CTD Punjab plays a key role in maintaining internal security and countering terrorism within the country.
โThe CTD conducted 71 IBOs across various cities in Punjab due to terrorism concerns,โ the statement quoted a CTD Punjab spokesperson as saying.
โNine terrorists were arrested during the operations.โ
He mentioned that the operations took place in Lahore, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad.
One terrorist of Fitna-ul-Khawarij was arrested from Mianwali, while another terrorist belonging to Islamic State (IS) was arrested from Faisalabad, the spoksperson added.
