In the name of Parvardegar...This thread is to cover Iranian Air force news and discussions..a Separate thead under "Iranian Aviation" covers Civilian and Military products and technology .

Did Iran receive anything new since the two Yak-130 ies that got delivered last year?
There are reports that they have received 4 more yaks but no evidence of this claim...and the same reports indicate no SU35 untill March 21 ..so only 2 YAKs confirmed on the tarmac..

Unless one has powerful SEAD capabilities, there is not really any logic in investing in the airforce in the present day. Building robust air-denial capabilities should be the focus. Current war in Ukraine has exposed many myths about air force.

I heard that Iran was going ahead with a plan to induct. 24 Su-35 from Russia. Any news on that?

Nothing new to report.
As you already know, the SU-35s were initially manufactured for the Egyptian Air Force. If Russia were to transfer them to Iran, they would need a reasonable amount of time to customize and rebrand the planes. Additionally, Iranian pilots would require rigorous training to learn how to operate the Su-35s. This would lead to further delays in the delivery schedule.

There is a new angel to Russian and Chinese relationship with Iran that I am seeing in some commentators discussion...in short China refuses to invest in Iran three years after signing the 400 billion MOU because they view current Islamic Regim too unstable and believe the next Government system in Iran will be pro-west ..I wonder if such views are talked about in Russia..what will happen to their SU 35 if Iran' next goverment is back in the Western camp...just thinking out of the box !!!.

You know the Iranian revolution 1979 was engineered by the Soviets with Iranian leftists. Later Khamenei hijacked it from the leftists and killed them. Therefore, Russia doesn't trust the mullahs and their relationship is more of convenience. Russia is counting on the Iranian secular anti-west groups who are among the Iranian students and intellectual class. I believe the next Iranian secular government will not be so much pro-west but rather independent

You are correct about 1979 events.. I was there as a young engineer arrived from Canada working Shah military industries ..Khomeini indeed hijacked the revolution..

As I look at the young crowds on the streets today they wants modern life style of western society . Yes Russians will try to keep mullahs in power as long as they could but they have sensed the flood for a change is unavoidable... I agree that the next government will be more independent than shah but for this young generation Western pull is too strong to resist...and Iran will need lots of investment to catch up for the past 45 years especially in the oil/gas and mining sectors..China will be there also to compete.. all that is left is for Iranians to boot the mullahs in the trash can..lol

Iran will open up its economy and today's west do not have much money anyway for overseas investments except in the service sector like insurance, banking etc. China will become the biggest investor. Secular Iran probably will set new modern lifestyle standard for the West as majority in the west live pay check to pay check.

YouTube is jumping with news of Iranian planned purchase of JF-17. No idea of the veracity.

@LegionnairE The JF-17 with Turkish Sub systems would give the Iranians a leeway into Turkish technology, no?

I've been suggesting this for over 10 years, that Iran needs an air force and it can be best built with JF-17.

So we discussed this a million times and the conclusion Iranians always came to was that Pakistan wouldn't sell.

Not only they would have to convince Pakistan and China, they need to convince Russia for the RD-33 engines and Turkey for whatever subsystems they want.
There's no way Iranian state can do diplomacy at this scale.

Last year they were saying that Iran was getting Su-35s and instead they got 2 Yak-130s and nothing more. I see this news as more hot air from Iran. Nothing will happen.

Masha'Allah great news if true.

With the oil/gas discovery off Karachi this makes two great pieces of wonderful news.

In hindsight, the decision to invest in PAC and collaborate with the Chinese on this JF-17 program was an excellent move.

Of course - the F-16 embargo did help.

@PakistanProud

Every time I log into this site, its design is somehow fucked with. I can't for the life of me figure out why you can't make up your mind on this.

Defence.pk had the same design for nearly 20 years and nobody complained about it pkdefense can't last 20 days without something changing without asking any of the users.

It's really sad. How much longer will this continue?
