Prime minister and ruling Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said that a conspiracy continued to make a Christian state comprising the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and a part of bordering Myanmar.

Bangladesh Christian Association released a statement by the Chairman Albert D'Costa yesterday asking PM Hasina to reveal the name of the Western country which is plotting to create a Christian homeland (in the tribal area) inside Bangladesh.

When you have a Govt. that has come to power through vote rigging and has no peoples mandate superpowers try to obtain undue advantages by coercing/blackmailing such Govt. Bangladesh can stop America from dismembering it by putting a democratic Govt. backed by people in power.

I knew for da last many years that these Rohingya are gonna get used against Bangladeshi/ Myanmar as a new Daesh/ ISIS franchise....... just had a bad feelin bout this......now we are realizing this Sy-Raaq type scenario in da Rangoon.

Prime minister and ruling Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said that a conspiracy continued to make a Christian state comprising the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and a part of bordering Myanmar.

She came up with the remark in her introductory speech at a meeting with the AL-led alliance at her official residence Ganabhaban.

'The plot is still there. With a part of Bangladesh like East Timor [broken off from Indonesia], then Chittagong [Chittagong Hill Tracts], Myanmar will form a Christian state. A base will be built in the Bay of Bengal,' she said.

She said that there was a conspiracy not to allow the election in Bangladesh this year.

'But the holding of the election would be allowed and I would face no difficulty in retaining power if I allowed them to build a base in the Bay of Bengal. It was a proposal from a white person,' said the prime minister.

'I gave a clear answer that I am Bangabandhu's daughter. We made the country independent. I do not want to come to power by renting part of the country or handing it over to someone,' she said.

She said that everyone should know these words that her fight was everywhere — inside and outside.

'Trade and commerce have been going on through the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean since ancient times. And there is no controversy and conflict in this place. Many have their eyes on this place... I would not let that happen,' said the prime minister.

She asked that who would be attacked if any air base was established here.

This was the first meeting of alliance chief Sheikh Hasina with the partners after the past general elections held on January 7.

Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon, general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal–Jasod president Hasanul Haq Inu, general secretary Shirin Akhter, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Party–JP chairman Anwar Hossain Monju, Tarikat Federation president Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari, Communist Kendra joint convener Asit Baran Roy and others attended the meeting.​

United States assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu has dismissed a claim by prime minister Sheikh Hasina that there was a conspiracy to establish a Christian state comprising parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar, like East Timor.

In an interview with Voice of America Bangla published online on July 12, Lu said that these allegations were completely false and added that the US respects Bangladesh's sovereignty.

Asked by the US news network and international radio broadcaster, Lu also dismissed the allegation of expressing an interest in setting up an air base in Bangladesh.

Lu, who last visited Bangladesh in May, his first visit after the January 7 general election, said that the US had the priority of supporting free and fair election polls conducted in a peaceful manner during the election.

In the interview, he said that they wanted to look forward and not look back.

On May 23, Bangladesh prime minister and ruling Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, in her introductory speech at a meeting with the AL-led alliance at her official residence Ganabhaban, said that a conspiracy continued to make a Christian state comprising the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and a part of bordering Myanmar.

A base would be built in the Bay of Bengal as part of the plot, she mentioned there, as reported in the media.

Without naming any country, she said that she would face no difficulty in retaining power if she allowed them to build a base in the Bay of Bengal, and the offer was from a white person,' said the prime minister.

The US state department earlier said that it had never engaged in any talks with Bangladesh to take over St Martins Island.

'I will just say that it is not accurate. We respect Bangladesh's sovereignty, and we have never engaged in any conversations about taking over St Martins Island. We value our partnership with Bangladesh,' US state department spokesperson Matthew Miller told a press briefing on June 26, 2023.

He was responding to a question that referred to prime minister Sheikh Hasina alleging at a press conference that the US wanted to grab St Martins Island and the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party wanted to sell it to the US and that was why she would be ousted from power.

Miller, however, said that they strived to bolster their relationship by working together to promote democracy, including by supporting free and fair elections in Bangladesh.​
