NOLANVILLE, Texas – A soldier is dead and another was injured in what authorities said was a dispute that escalated into gunfire.

U.S. Army officials at Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, said the shooting happened off Highway 190 near the city of Nolanville around 8:25 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities said the two soldiers got into an argument off base. The argument escalated into a shooting with one of the soldiers dying and the other being taken to a hospital.

Authorities have not released what happened before the fatal shooting in a ditch along the highway.

The identities of the soldiers have not been released, but their families have been notified.

Officials confirmed the two soldiers were active duty troops in the 1st Cavalry Division.

Army CID investigators are assisting Nolanville Police with the investigation.

AU.S. Army soldier was killed and another hospitalized when a dispute led to a shooting in Nolanville, Texas, officials said.

Nolanville’s police chief told KXXV News that the two soldiers got into an argument around 8:25 a.m. Saturday at a location off post.
A military spokesperson described the soldiers as active duty troops in the Army’s 1st Calvary Division, according to the outlet.

While the soldiers’ identities have yet to be released, Army officials have said that they are in touch with the soldiers’ families, KXXV reported.
Police in Nolanville — about 70 miles north of Austin — are investigating the incident. Members of the Army Criminal Investigation Division will be assisting them with that investigation.
