The German newspaper BILD on Oct. 24 reported that India rejected Turkey's BRICS membership bid, citing Ankara's close relations with Pakistan. As a result of India's decision, the required consensus was not reached.

The state and government leaders gathered for the BRICS summit decided not to accept new members for the time being, according to reporting by the online news outlet T24.

Payback is a female dog.

I hear Pakistan is interested too? @Dogun18

'Payback' is subjective here. India should have no say in who joins and doesn't join BRICS+. It makes them look like a Western Puppet and disliked by others.

Turkey was invited for a reason and will probably still end up joining. Modi is only hurting himself and Indian interests here.

We shall see.

Turkey will be taught a lesson about not donning religious caps and interfering in the affairs of other sovereign states.

They have enough on their plate as it is. To go picking fights they cannot win.

What does meddling in Kashmir and overtly supporting Pakistan have to do with "looking like a Western puppet" for India?

For the longest time Pakistan was de facto in the Western camp.

As a result of previous statements on Kashmir that have come out of Ankara, which stemmed from said close relations.

Words are actions, and actions have consequences.

With Saudi playing coy, I believe its time to fast track Iran into the BRICS.

I doubt India would resist that move.

But with the phull sapport crowd running things, you never know.

One thing is for sure, the BRICS is half of what it could and should be without at least one if not both the energy giants onboard.

What is happening is very logical - every country pursues only its own national interests - and nothing else matters, except that when certain interests align between countries, they can cooperate for as long as such alignments remain. No one should be surprised at any developments here.

Also, this so called "phull sapport" crowd has steadfastly and resolutely refused to strawman Iran and be drawn into the many woes and conflicts that plague the middle east.

This crowd has upped the diplomatic game manyfold... ignored all western sanctions pressure and threats, and maintained good relations with the Saudis, the Iranians, and the Israelis, and sent relief goods to the Filistinees.

A far cry from when the disgusting La Dinastia Ghandy Familia was running things.
