yaar you can't fight other peoples wars. Assad sahb refused to fight. He wanted GCC/ EU/ US money for reconstruction and told Iran and Russia to leave. Then he got double crossed by both the GCC and the West.....lol

His entire SAA fled the frontlines leaving few thousand Iranians and the Russians in Tartus/ Hmeiem AB holding all the bags.

Basically that's what happened.
