I know a smattering of both Urdu and Hindi from my travels in India - I go almost every year. Urdu has Persian and Arabic terms and Hindi has Sanskrit terms. Most educated Bangladeshis know and understand some Urdu as well as Hindi (which is rather similar to Bengali).

Now whether they will speak Hindi in daily life is a different matter of choice.

Actually Bengali has even more Sanskrit in terms of grammar (Samasa, Karak, Bivakti, Apabhramsa etc.) which I learned in middle school (8th grade). All better educated students in Bangladesh know Sanskrit (Bengali) grammar.

80-90% of formal Bengali proverbs (even in Bangladesh) come from Sanskrit (derived from Bhagavad Gita).

E.G. "Gatashha Shochona Nasti".গতস্য শোচনা নাস্তি which means "do not regret what is done and over with".
