Big outlay planned for FY26

The finance ministry has planned a big outlay of about Tk 8.5 lakh crore for the 2025-26 financial year, aiming at encouraging business activities.
Officials of the ministry said that emphasis would be given on the generation of more revenue by the National Board of Revenue to support the big expenditure amount.
The provisional target for the NBR has been set at Tk 5.2 lakh crore, said the officials.
The outline of the new budget was on Wednesday presented at a meeting with chief adviser Muhammad Yunus at his official residence, the Januma.
Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed aided by the budget wing of the Finance Division highlighted different components of the outline.
The annual development expenditure in FY26 will be close to third of the total outlay with emphasis on job generation projects in sectors like education, health and social safety, said the Finance Division officials.
Like the current financial year, the Finance Division will keep the focus on checking inflation below 7 per cent in FY26, added the officials.
The budget outline also focused on the revised budget for the current FY25 and projected that the overall growth would remain over 5 per cent despite disruption in economic activities.
