When you claim belonging to a group, you first need to meet the basic requirement of being accepted by that group.

Most Indians do not. Save maybe a small section of Tamilians, direct family etc.

When Imran Khan was ousted from power two years ago, he was quick to blame the United States for his downfall.

Khan was removed from premiership in 2022 through a no-confidence vote in Pakistan's Parliament. He was handed a 10-year prison sentence for corruption in January this year, weeks before Pakistan's general election in February.

However, the former cricket player-turned-politician alleged that his country's powerful military generals and Washington orchestrated his removal from power. The claim was unsubstantiated, but his supporters firmly believe it.

"Historically, the US has had an influence on Pakistan's foreign and security policies, and there is a widely held belief among many Pakistanis that Washington can influence Pakistani politics," Raza Rumi, a US-based Pakistani analyst, told DW.

Khan's supporters, however, are only critical of the US Democratic Party, President Joe Biden in particular, who they say didn't want Khan at the helm. They believe Khan's troubles started with Republican Donald Trump's defeat in the 2020.

"It is true that Biden never called Khan when he was prime minister. The Biden administration ignored Khan, and many (in Khan's administration) appealed to him to get in touch," Rumi said.

Choosing a President on the basis of a marginal and trivial issue such as support for a preferred leader "back home" is simply a mistake by those who should be more concerned about domestic policies rather than international, economic ones being at the top.

Trump's "domestic" proclamations are both fascist and that of a dictator IMO. Democracy is in danger.

He is extremely anti-immigrant - whom he holds as scapegoats for America's troubles. In this manner his tactics are similar to Modi's who targets minorities - with false claims of illegal immigrants causing all trouble.

Why focus on this topic? Because it concerns us as Desis (especially who live in the US) - period.

Desis like Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis will be the butt of Trump's extremist divisive policies as he has proclaimed already - I am surprised some Desis in the US do not see it.

The "otherization" of minorities in both the US and India are easy to do, these people largely have no support, political representation or otherwise (though some Indians are making a headway into the US political arena with mixed results).

It is easy for someone like Trump to summarily blame them for all economic and societal mis-steps that prior administrations have taken and claim that driving them out will solve all problems.

Avg. Indian household income is $120,000 per year. That of Midwest Whites is somewhere around sub-$80,000 or so. Trump is using these statistics as his "trump-card" - so to speak (no pun intended). Never mind the fact that educated Indians come from a different strata of society altogether. As do their Pakistani and Bangladeshi equivalents.

All Desis fall into this "targeted troublemaker" category and should choose their political choices carefully.

Trump's MAGA policies are all driven by deeper alt-right philosophies - which prophesize the removal of non-white and non-European immigrants as the solution to America's ills.

Trump will also definitely not be a boon to either India or Pakistan foreign policy-wise, I can assure you. Not anymore than Biden was, or Kamala will. Indian origin notwithstanding.

These people were born in the US and their allegiance to the US pays far more in kind personally than allegiance and ode/support to some foreign nation on the other side of the world.

I think this is fear mongering. Not that I disagree that Trump has no special love for Indians.

But can you point out specific examples from his first term that lend any credence to what you predict.

Domestic American. Not foreign policy. We expect no free handouts, nor should any country. The US is not in the business of global charity.
