I have read this story before of a serving army officer speaking with disdain about Gujaratis. On echarcha.com. He had respect for all Indian states except Gujarat. He respected even Southies.

My question is how come despite being a border state Gujarat doesn't produce many martial people? Even some regions that are far from border have reputation of producing decent soldiers. Why not the border state of Gujarat? There may be exceptions within Gujarat like Rann of Kutch's farmers being patriotic and desiring war.

We do have some great martial communities. However, culture is overwhelmingly of business. People are hardworking and very much down to earth and humble don't want to fight unless very much required. People expects too much from Gujarat.
