About 150-200 unnamed people were also made accused in the case filed over trying to kill Mursalin Alam, 22, during the student-mass movement on July 18.

Siddhirganj police station officer-in-charge Al Mamun said that the case was recorded on Friday afternoon following the court’s directive.

Anisur Rahman

A Jashore businessman sued 13 policemen, including former superintendent of police Anisur Rahman, on Sunday night for allegedly abducting him, and attempting to kill him in 2014.

Masudur Rahman Nannu, the businessman, lodged the case with a court. The accused include former officers and constables, among them Milu Mia Biswas, then assistant superintendent of police, and several others.

According to the complaint, Nannu was abducted on May 31, 2014, near Manihar Cinema Hall following Anisur Rahman's orders.

He was taken to Chanchra Police Outpost, tortured, and threatened with "crossfire" unless Tk 25 lakh was paid. His brother managed to pay Tk 10 lakh, securing his release. However, the accused shot Nannu in the leg before admitting him to Jashore General Hospital.

An arms case was filed against Nannu, who was later transferred to a Dhaka hospital under police custody and eventually sent to prison.

Nannu alleges he was unable to seek justice earlier due to the accused's influence. He now feels the conditions are favourable for legal action.

Cops release Munni Saha on condition
People had handed her over to police

Journalist Munni Saha, who is accused in a July mass uprising case, was released conditionally in the wee hours after being taken to Tejgaon Police Station last night for security reasons, police have said.

"Police did not detain her. People detained her and then handed her over to the police," Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.

"The Tejgaon police first took her to the police station. She was moved to the DB police compound for security reasons," he said.

"Munni Saha had a panic attack and fell ill. Considering her condition and that she is a female journalist, we released her under section 497 of the Criminal Procedure Code," Mallick said.

She was handed over to her family on bond and she must appear in court to seek bail and comply with future police summons, he added.

Section 497 of the CrPC allows the release on bail of any person under the age of 16 years or any woman or any sick or infirm person accused of an offence punishable with death.

Earlier, around 9:20pm, a group of people blocked Munni Saha when she was leaving a media office at Janata Tower in the capital's Kawran Bazar by car.

Video footage of the incident on social media showed people accusing Munni Saha of spreading misinformation during the BDR mutiny in 2009 through her reporting.

Mobarak Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Tejgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star at that time, "Munni Saha was wanted in a case filed earlier. She was arrested after police rescued her from locals in the capital's Kawran Bazar area."

The case against Munni Saha, six other journalists and another 185 individuals was filed on July 22 over the death of 17-year-old student Nayeem Howlader in the capital's Jatrabari on July 19 during the quota reform protests.

On her way to Bangkok for medical treatment, veteran actress and former Member of Parliament Suborna Mustafa was prevented from leaving Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning, Saturday. A family source close to Suborna Mustafa confirmed the information to Prothom Alo.

According to the reliable source, Suborna Mustafa was accompanied by her husband, playwright and filmmaker Badrul Anam Saud. Upon arriving at the airport, the couple completed check-in and immigration formalities. They were waiting in the lounge to board their flight when, just five minutes before boarding, an immigration police officer approached them. The officer informed them that Suborna Mustafa was under observation by the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and, as a result, she would not be allowed to leave the country.

A close associate of Suborna and Saud mentioned that the couple felt embarrassed when the police informed them of the decision. The source asserted that Suborna was travelling to Bangkok solely for medical purposes and had an appointment scheduled with her doctor on December 3.

Suborna Mustafa has been actively involved in Awami League politics for many years. She served as a Member of Parliament representing a reserved women's seat, nominated by the Awami League. She held the position from 2019 to 2024.
