The distinguished poet, lyricist, columnist, and creator of popular national songs, including "Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan," Nawabzada Mirza Jamiluddin Ahmed Khan, widely known as Jamiluddin Aali.

Referred to affectionately as "Aali Ji" by many, he pursued a career in banking and maintained a 50-year association with Anjuman Tarraqi-e-Urdu Pakistan from 1962 to 2012, alongside his literary endeavors. His significant role in promoting Urdu and contributing to the establishment of the Urdu University, a vision of Baba-e-Urdu (Maulana Abdul Haq), is widely acknowledged.

Aali's credit includes crafting one of the longest poems in Urdu literature, "Insaan," comprising 4000 verses, in addition to numerous Nazms and Ghazals. He passed away due to a heart attack on November 23, 2015, and was laid to rest in Karachi.

Today marks the eighth anniversary of the demise of esteemed Urdu writer Intizar Hussain. Born in India in 1925, Hussain gained widespread acclaim for his contributions to novels, short stories, poetry, and non-fiction.

Having pursued Urdu literature at a university in Meerut, India, he later relocated to Lahore.His novel, "Basti" (1979), addressing the partition of the subcontinent, garnered international recognition when shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize in 2013 after translation.

Intizar Hussain, throughout his life, maintained an association with journalism, contributing columns to prominent newspapers until his passing.Acknowledged for his literary achievements, he received numerous national and international awards, including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz from the government of Pakistan.
Intizar Hussain passed away on February 2, 2016, in Lahore.

Today marks the 42nd death anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet and prose writer, Josh Malihabadi, also known as the 'Poet of Revolution'. Born Shabbir Hassan Khan, he hailed from a lineage of esteemed poets, including his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Josh Malihabadi commenced his poetic journey at a young age and later engaged in practical endeavors at Dar-ul-Tarjuma Usmania in Hyderabad State.

His outspoken stance against the Hyderabad system led to the loss of his job and citizenship, prompting his relocation to Delhi, where he established the magazine 'Kaleem' and contributed to All India Radio. He furthered his literary pursuits in Pakistan, collaborating on the Urdu dictionary with Maulvi Abdul Haque and editing 'Urdu Nama' magazine.

Josh Malihabadi's versatility extended to songwriting for films, notable among them being 'Ae Watan Hum Hain Teri Shama Ke Parwanon Main' for the film 'Aag Ka Darya'. He also penned columns for the daily Jang under the title of 'Ilm wa Fikr'.

Among his significant poetic works are 'Rooh-e-Adab', 'Shaer ki Raatain', 'Naqsh o Nigar', and 'Fikr o Nishat', while his prose contributions include 'Maqalat-e-Zarrin' and 'Jazbaat-e-Fitrat'. His impactful legacy earned him the Padma Bhushan Award in 1954 and posthumously the Hilal Imtiaz in 2013. Josh Malihabadi passed away on this day in 1982 at the age of 83 in Islamabad.

Faiz Ahmad Faiz (13 February 1911 – 20 November 1984) was a Pakistani poet and author of Punjabi and Urdu literature. He was one of the most celebrated, popular, and influential Urdu writers of his time, and his works and ideas remain widely influential today in Pakistan and beyond.

Outside of literature, he has been described as "a man of wide experience", having worked as a teacher, military officer, journalist, trade unionist, and broadcaster.

We honor the memory of the esteemed poet Munir Niazi on his birth anniversary. Born on April 9, 1928, near Hoshiarpur, he relocated to Pakistan after partition and became renowned as one of the country's distinguished movie songwriters.

Alongside his contributions to newspapers and radio, he initiated the weekly publication 'Saat Rang' in 1949 and established the Al-Misal publication institute in 1960. Throughout his life in Lahore, where he remained associated with Lahore Television until his passing, his poetry left an indelible mark on young writers and poets.

Niazi's poetic collections, both in Urdu and Punjabi, have earned widespread acclaim, influencing not only his contemporaries but also future generations of poets. Recognized for his literary prowess, Niazi received several prestigious awards, including the Kamal-e-Funn Award in 2002 and the President's Award for Pride of Performance in 1992.

He breathed his last on December 26, 2006, in Lahore, leaving behind a legacy cherished by readers worldwide.
