I have three Muslim friends in Poona. All 3 are Shias. Two Iranis. One Khoja (Gujju Punjabi mix).

I've been once to the largest Irani imambarra during the time they do this chest beating matam. Muharram midnight march and juloos. Poona landmark. Josheela youth even do it bare chested with chains with open razors and blades ar the end.

The general place and vibe and cleanliness and way people are dressed and the way food is displayed and served is very cultured and up market compared to what we Indians are used to with mull stuff in general.

There are clear posters everywhere that (translated by my friend) say that this is a place of prayer, and community gathering and absolutely no political or inter religious nasty talk is allowed anywhere on the premises.

Shia islam is all about delivering justice to society. The whole narrative is about upholding the rule of law and not accepting tyranny or corruption in society. That’s all it is and surprisingly relevant a philosophy in today’s world.

My colleague Rahul is thinking about leaving Melbourne now saying sarrak per log budtameezi kartay hain and yell slurs whilst driving by.

Bhai he has young children and now after this has happened a number of times including vandalism on his car and home a few times it is having a very bad effect on the children.

I warned him a decade ago when I was leaving Australia for Japan that these guys are not goin let yous live here. Called him a chutiya to his face for not listening to me.
