Sati pratha was widespread across India.Where was sati practiced in 70s when they separated ?
Btw go read books of any travellers who came to India, none of them mentioned such practice.
It has nothing to do with Hindu scriptures, it happened at very small scale and timeframe after invasion of those who made you Farsi snakes ran away from homeland.
WHere a struggling screaming woman would be drugged and tied to the body of her dead husband as it was set alight on the funeral pyre.
