Short Summary: Bill Gates says India building future with affordable healthcare India is not just building for itself, it is creating solutions that have the potential to transform global health and development, Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates said on Wednesday.
When you encounter brilliant and knowledgeable guy like @Bilal9 , you come across great revelation that criteria of a developed medical sector is not good doctors, nor quality and quantity medicine at a very affordable rate, lots of alternate treatment, medical facility availablity in remotest corner etc. but the numbers of City scan machines produced by the country. This is the benefit of discuss topics here with great guys like @Bilal9 and his great knowledge is supplimented by another great mahagyani @Jiangnan . I am speechless. Had bill gates been a member of this forum, he would not have made this statement.
Bhai, Mahagyani or not, it does not take Einstein to figure out that a largely undeveloped country like India (the whole subcontinent is in this situation) which does not possess the technical wherewithal to produce CT-Scan machines (forget CT-Scan machines, even cannot produce basic, basic X-Ray machines which China has been producing since the 1960's) is technically backward. Just having skilled doctors with no self-sufficiency in medical technologies is having no arms or limbs with a human body which is useless.

We are discussing the entire medical sector of India, not just in CMMC Vellore (Chennai) or AIIMS in Delhi, or some high-rated hospital in Mumbai.

China has just as many skilled doctors (if not more) than India. But China's economic condition is such that they don't have to run over to the US to make a living as Doctors. That a civilization like China can do makes them several steps above India.

This is understood by every level-headed sane individual other than a die-hard Hindutvabadi.

Mention of Indian doctors in US parliament.

So what? There are Bangladeshi and Pakistani doctors there too. And probably just as talented, if not more. I have dozens of Bangladeshi and Pakistani friends who are top level doctors in the US. What is so remarkable about this?

Moreover, where is the Hindutva connection?

The fact that we in the subcontinent cannot give well-paying jobs to Doctors and they have to whore themselves to get jobs in the US is a tell-all situation.

Ultimately, even if Indians Doctors or Engineers are millionaires in the US, they are still second class citizens. Just like all desis.

A typical islamist's argument. We are space super power, having our own ICBMs, super computers, fast breeder reactors but we are technologically backward. Chinese must be feeling very happy to get such free psychopaths who tries to be more Chinese than original Chinese. Congrats.

Well fruits do have a constant consumption rate, but in Ramzan, the local Board of Revenue reduced taxes on imported fruit to keep prices low, as consumption goes up, for Iftar staples like grapes and dates, but also Kashmiri apples, peaches and pears. We also get exotic specialties like NZ Kiwi Fruit and others, just like India.

Dates are imported from all over the middle east but especially, Pakistan. The best high quality khajoor date product of course come from near my neck of the woods (Palm Springs in California). California produced Medjool dates are even exported to Saudi and sells at premium prices, I have seen them there.

The way fruits used to be sold in Bangladesh was in unhealthy conditions like kutcha kitchen markets, but increasingly in super-shops in major urban areas.

This is kind of off-topic for the thread, we should open another thread to discuss this.

Here is a story of recent vintage,

NBR halves source tax on imported fresh fruits

The tax will now be 5% from the earlier 10%

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has halved the source tax on imported fresh fruits, including oranges, malta, grapes, apples, and pears, reducing it to 5 percent in an effort to keep domestic prices stable during Ramadan and beyond.

The NBR made this decision following a recommendation from the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC) to lower duties and taxes on fresh fruits, aiming to reduce prices and make them more affordable.

Earlier, the BTTC had recommended reducing the advance tax on fresh fruit imports from 10 percent to 2 percent and rationalizing the 20 percent regulatory duty.

On January 10, the NBR increased the supplementary duty on fresh fruit imports from 20 percent to 30 percent, causing prices in the domestic market to rise.

In response, the BTTC has proposed reverting the duty to its previous rate.
sure a lot of fruit and spices gose for export but that was in past but now the trend is reversing specially after most of europeans and north americn trade teriffs all those top quality spices , fruits and long grain rice have much much larger and much loyal markets way back in ever exploding indian middle class which are sick of buying same old stuff and wants more and more exotic and top quality stuff .... just go to any fruit or veggie market or grocerry store like relince smart type store and see how much so called washington apples, orenges or peaches or those blue berries and those exotic variety of grapes and musk melons as consumedby avrage middle class houseold in metro or second or even third tire cities and demand is ever growing leaving hardly any major stuff for export

Well good - I guess middle class will be able to afford more cheaper US agri goods (fruit) when Indian tariff for US fruit imports is reduced.

For comparison, fruit in Bangladesh (imported fruit) is a bit pricier than India...here is some idea of fruit pricing for a super shop chain in Dhaka

well my nswer was about how Indian middle class is more interested in buying produce of India than exotic imported fruits which still sell not that much , earlier trend was best quality long grain basmati rice or the best quality spices and fruuits like mangose or apples were send in bulk to export while indian consumers only got the second grade stuff now the trend has reversed since indian consumer get the best product first as they want the best and ready to give premium price while europeans and americans deu to there extra zelous tariff regime stopped or harrassed the indian exporters they diverted the supplies to inbound markets where all there stocks got sold out much much faster and with a permium
