You lot are also signatories to a bunch of binding agreements / treaties on the matter.

Guys let's not get personal.

For one thing a lot of Indians never thought we'd better them at anything except level of poverty, malnutrition etc. much less GDP per capita, maternal health or the most damning of all, open defecation.

Yet here we are - so much for 'common perceptions'.....
I don't believe I have been. Some of your fellow BDesis are but.

Anyway, I'd be interested in getting your thoughts on a military nuclear program ?

Is the issue with Bangladesh and India as bad as Pakistan and India, or am I missing something here?
Oh no, nowhere close to, but things have soured lately after PM Hasina's ousting. She was widely perceived to be an "Indian agent" and unpopular.. it's more complicated than that, I'll leave it to the BD guys here to parse further and flesh it out for you.

Yeah nowadays it is at a pretty low ebb - especially after India-leaning Hasina was ousted from Bangladesh...

I'd say even worse than Pakistan, if you see Indian media (mostly govt. and Modi-leaning) spewing daily vitriol against Bangladesh (fact).

No this is not true at all. Bangladeshi citizens just realized that they were not properly represented in the former regime. Hence the coup.

India/ Pakistan rivalry is on a whole diff level.

There is no equal to India/Pak rivalry. Iran vs Israel is just politics. Once Iran subdues an itty bitty two bit Israel, there will be no drama.

I'd reckon that's because Indians know the Pakistanis can defend themselves pretty well. But they see Bangladesh as some sort of rag tall dog they attempt to throw around?

The correct word would be under-estimation and attempted control militarily/politically - which was a failure, as shown by Hasina's ouster.

But after a lot of hot air and accompanied chagrin, Indian top administration (BJP) has now come to their senses and trying to smooth feathers and normalize relations.

At stake is a large amount of trade, close to $40 Billion annually, mostly to Indian advantage. India will not risk this.

I have to admit that this bad relations with neighbors thing is indeed the case - even Indian political analysts admit it.
China ?

India Pak .. everyone knows the score
India BD .. new low
India Maldives .. fixed
India Sri Lanka .. good
India Nepal .. went bad when the commies took over. stable now
India Bhutan .. inconsequential, good as always
India Myanmar .. not hostile

complicated neighborhood, this

The Rooppur plant, 160 kilometres from the capital Dhaka, features two Russian VVER-1200 reactors. Rosatom in February 2011 signed an agreement for two reactors to be built at Rooppur for the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

The initial contract for the project, worth USD12.65 billion, was signed in December 2015. The Bangladesh Atomic Regulatory Authority issued the first site licence for the Rooppur plant in June 2016, allowing preliminary site works, including geological surveys, to begin.

Construction of the first unit began in November 2017. Construction of the second unit began in July 2018. They have an initial life-cycle of 60 years, with a further 20-year extension possible.

The reactor assembly process included the installation of reactor internals, such as the shaft and baffle, loading of dummy fuel and installation of a protective pipes unit. The next stage is hydraulic testing.

Alexey Deriy, Atomstroyexport JSC Vice President for Projects in Bangladesh, said: "Completion of the reactor assembly and getting prepared for key tests is an important stage to ensure the efficient operation of the future power unit. We are responsible for the safe, uninterrupted and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant being constructed ... [which] will contribute to a sustainable and prosperous energy future for Bangladesh."

The dummy fuel assemblies - exact replicas of standard fuel assemblies but without nuclear fuel - were loaded into unit 1 last month. Nuclear fuel, which was delivered to the site last year, will only be loaded after the tests with the dummy fuel assemblies have been successfully carried out.
