Make in India is a great initiative but Agniveers would not be contributing to it much.

Most of them are 10th pass with barely any technical knowledge. You can consider them equilant to a Pakistani 12th pass or B.A. graduate only. I fail to understand what a person with such basic education will contribute to the development of submarines or depleted-uranimum shells.

The Jawans/NCOs are only expected to understand basic instructions and follow command without question. So let's not get carried away with Agniveer scheme.

There can be no comparison with earlier recruitments. The 21st century wars are a different ball game. It is not about numbers by which we won 1965,1971 and probably 1999 wars. Contactless warfare in the digital era means that future wars will be fought with artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, stand-off weapons, cyber space and space-based ISR (Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance) playing a key role. Recruits need to be tech-savy. It wasn't the case before. That's why there was no written test for army recruitment till Agnipath scheme was introduced.

There are officers, who are well-educated and qualified. These are the cream of the crowd that wants to join the military.

Then there are the jawans, most of them are from small villages who dream to join the "army" because it's a sarkari naukri. Agniveers are from the poorest backgrounds with little or no exposure or education. No one from even modest background wishes to joina service which "retires" them after 4 years. Please don't expect too much out of the poor boys.
