Germany-based global industrial thread manufacturer Amann Group is planning to expand its factory operations and explore new investment opportunities in Bangladesh, company officials said at a meeting with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
The announcement came during a recent bilateral meeting between BGMEA president Mahmud Hasan Khan and an Amann Group delegation led by its chief executive officer, Markus Nicolaus, said a press release on Saturday.
The meeting focused on the capabilities of Bangladesh’s readymade garment industry, ongoing challenges in global markets, and strategic investment prospects in the country’s textile and apparel sector.
According to the company official, the 170-year-old Amann Group started its Bangladesh chapter in 2013 through Amann Bangladesh Limited, establishing its factory unit in Mawna, Gazipur.
During the discussion, Mahmud Hasan Khan said that although RMG export growth slowed earlier this year due to global economic instability, the sector is now recovering.
He also said that the country’s apparel industry is undergoing a major transformation with a strong focus on product diversification and value addition.
‘Our current goal is to increase export volume and to produce higher-value garments,’ he added, saying that Amann Group could support the sector not just as a yarn supplier but also as a strategic business partner.
The BGMEA president also said that several reputed German brands are yet to source garments from Bangladesh and urged Amann Group to present the country’s transformed apparel industry and manufacturing capabilities to those brands and encourage them to begin sourcing from Bangladesh.
Speaking at the meeting, Amann Group CEO Markus Nicolaus said that the future of Bangladesh’s garment industry as highly promising and said the company is closely assessing additional sectors for investment.
‘There are significant opportunities for large-scale investment in Bangladesh’s high-tech textile sector,’ he said.
He also said that Amann Group aims to cater to premium international brands through its product offerings.
During the meeting, Amann Group representatives also sought information about global and local risk factors affecting the apparel industry, labour standards in Bangladesh, and the impact of current United States tariff policies on international trade.
The two sides also exchanged views on the country’s port facilities, energy situation, logistics, and broader infrastructure development prospects.
Founded in 1854, the Amann Group remained one of the world’s leading producers of industrial sewing and embroidery threads, operating in over 100 countries.
In Bangladesh, the company also plays a vital role in meeting the sewing thread requirements of all global brands.
