Indonesia signs letter of intent to buy 18 more Rafale jets, expanding defence ties with France

At the end of December 2023, the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) awarded Dassault Aviation an order for 42 Rafale combat aircraft, known as “tranche 5”, for the French Air Force (AAE).

On 28 May, Indonesia signed a letter of intent expressing its intention to acquire additional Rafale fighter jets from French manufacturer Dassault Aviation. This move follows a previous order for 42 Rafale aircraft placed in 2022.

The new agreement is expected to cover 18 more jets and further deepen defence cooperation between the two nations. Initial deliveries of the Rafale are scheduled to begin in early 2026.

The partnership includes training, logistical support and technology transfers, aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s strategic autonomy in the Indo-Pacific region. “The announced decision to continue purchasing these fighter jets is evidence of Jakarta’s confidence in the combat capabilities of the aircraft,” despite recent challenges, said an official source.

The decision to expand the order was made despite a disinformation campaign intended to damage the Rafale’s reputation. The campaign, which alleged the downing of three Rafale jets by Pakistan, was reportedly supported by media outlets and social media accounts linked to China and Pakistan.

Indonesia has also shown interest in acquiring two Scorpène submarines, frigates, and CAESAR artillery systems. These potential purchases are part of a broader strategy to modernise the Indonesian Armed Forces and bolster the country’s regional standing.

Exposing the lies of 50 cent army propaganda, Indonesia signed 18 additional Rafale deal. 4 Ft Chinese was doing propaganda here that Indonesia was considering Junk 10 C which hit the send of Rajasthan and failed to hit even a single plane.

Probably France offered excess rebates?

We human world know that the J-10C shot down the Rafale fighter jet. The problem now is. Can India Junk Tejas fly?

It's great to see Indians talking about "reliability," "life" and "height".

Indian reliability: All weapons made in India cannot work.

Life expectancy: India is 67 years old. Bangladesh is 73 years old.

Indian height: 166cm. The lowest in Asia.

We thought Indians would say that Indian junk can fly. But Indians make more jokes.

😂😂😂😂😂

Oh, Indonesia was originally planning to buy 42 Rafale fighter jets. But after the J-10C shot down the Rafale fighter jet. Although Dassault offers more kickbacks. Indonesia only wants to buy 18 Rafale fighter jets.

J-10C shot down 24 Rafale fighter jets.😂😂😂

The world's lowest Indian waste is only 164 cm. When was the last time they were honest?

Will we humans continue to humiliate a backward country with 400 million illiterate people and 600 million people without toilets?

yes!

We think Indians can be braver to say: Is the Rafale fighter capable of shooting down the J-10C?
