PTI claims ‘PDM 2’ being imposed on the nation

PTI has rejected the “shameful” attempts at creating “PDM 2” in the country by trampling on the intentions of the people, a statement released by the party said.

“The economic and administrative disaster that Pakistan is suffering today is the responsibility of PDM, an incompetent, worthless and rejected group of criminals.”

The statement said the PTI was the “largest and most popular party in the country” and it therefore had the basic constitutional, democratic, moral and political right to form a government.

“The chief election commissioner (CEC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan are the main facilitators in the open robbery of democracy,” it added. The PTI also demanded the immediate resignation of the CEC and members of the ECP.

ECP stops announcements in 26 poll results

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stopped on Sunday the announcement of final results of 10 National Assembly and 16 provincial assembly constituencies across the country and ordered re-polling at 53 polling stations in three constituencies.

The ECP took up dozens of petitions, challenging the election results of various national and provincial assembly constituencies. Simultaneously, several other petitions were also filed in different high courts, which would be taken up on Monday.

While hearing the petitions, the ECP barred the returning officers concerned not to issue the notification of the success of any candidate from NA-15, Mansehra, NA-28, NA-49 and NA 50 in Attock, NA-55, Rawalpindi, NA-63 and NA-65 in Gujrat, and NA-47 and NA-48, Islamabad.

PML-N works out initial coalition formula

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has worked out an initial power-sharing formula regarding the formation of the coming federal government, which would be discussed during the talks with the potential allies to cobble up a sustainable coalition.

According to PML-N sources, the initial formula stipulates that if the coalition parties agree to give the post of prime minister to the PML-N, then the post of president and speaker will be given to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Similarly, the post of deputy speaker can be given to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) or any of the independent members joining the coalition. Besides, the PML-N may keep the finance ministry, and other ministries will be distributed among allies with mutual consultation.

Poll results dampen foreign policy hopes

Feb 11,
More than 65 hours after the polling concluded, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday finally announced the complete results.

Results show the PTI-backed candidates are in the lead, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party stands in the third position.

However, none of the parties have a clear mandate to form a government on their own. Therefore, coalition government is inevitable.
