Mahmood Khan Achakzai writes letter to ECP seeking postponement of presidential elections

Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the postponement of presidential elections.

It must be noted that Achakzai is the nominee of Sunni Ittehad Council — the new home of the PTI — for the coveted post of president.

The letter, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, said that the electoral college prescribed for the election of the president under the law and Constitution was “incomplete”. It highlighted that there were some reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies which were vacant as no one was elected to them.

“[…] If the presidential election is conducted as per the schedule that would be denial of their votes, which otherwise is against the fundamental rights, law and Constitution,” the letter stated.

It pointed out that the completion of the electoral college was not possible unless members on reserved seats were elected.
Achakzai demanded that the presidential elections be delayed or postponed until the complete of the electoral college

Only public has ‘authority’ to give us ‘anti-state certificate’: PTI’s Omar Ayub

PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub has said that only the public has the “authority” to declare his party “anti-state”, adding that they chose to vote for the PTI.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, he said: “We are patriotic Pakistanis. The [right to give the] certificate of [being] anti-state is neither in the hands of the National Assembly speaker nor in anyone else’s.

“The authority or ability to give this certificate is in the hands of the Pakistani public. Pakistan’s public has sent us here (National Assembly),” he added.

The PTI-backed MNA also challenged his political rivals to win if elections were conducted again.

Addressing the media alongside PPP leader Sanaullah Zehri today, CM Bugti said the people of Balochistan were provided employment and development funds due to the NFC award.

“The PPP will again, from the President’s House, bring all the federation units together,” he said. “President Zardari will visit Balochistan soon and be apprised of provincial problems.”

CM Bugti promised that the PPP would become “the voice of Balochistan”, adding that all the issues with the federal government would be resolved peacefully through the President’s House.
