US President Donald Trump has posted on his social media platform Truth Social, which he owns, about Bangladesh and Turkey purchasing aircraft from US company Boeing.

Trump made the post from his verified account yesterday, Thursday (24 September).

Bangladesh has signed an agreement to purchase 11 new aircraft from Boeing. Mahdi Amin, an adviser to the prime minister, disclosed the information at a press conference held in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York, US, on Tuesday evening local time.

Meanwhile, Boeing announced on Wednesday that Turkish Airlines, Turkey’s national flag carrier, had purchased 100 aircraft and secured options to purchase 50 more.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the two aircraft sales as a “big day” for Boeing and the US manufacturing sector.

Bangladesh prioritises technology diplomacy for US ties

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has identified science and technology diplomacy as foreign policy priorities, calling for technology transfer, workforce development and stronger ties between Bangladeshi institutions and US research networks.

She made the remarks at the Bangladesh-Silicon Valley Technology Dialogue, organised by the Bangladesh Consulate General in Los Angeles at Stanford University on September 27, according to a foreign ministry press release issued on Monday, reports BSS.

A delegation sent by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met technology professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors, including members of the Bangladeshi diaspora, under the theme "Technology, Talent and Partnerships for Bangladesh's Future."

Shama Obaed said sustained engagement with Bangladeshi professionals in the global technology industry could help connect the country's institutions with the US research and innovation ecosystem. Such cooperation should also address practical needs at home, including agriculture and food security, she said.

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad called for stronger links among research institutions, educators, startups and industry. Bangladesh's growing pool of technical talent should translate into innovation, investment and skilled jobs, he said.

Participants heard presentations on applications of artificial intelligence in Bangladesh and the development of a semiconductor industry. A panel on talent, technology and capital discussed research, workforce development, industry partnerships and access to investment.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj stressed the need to pair foundational learning with digital skills. He called for practical teacher training, wider access to quality learning materials and careful testing of classroom technology before its broader adoption.

Concluding the dialogue, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said Bangladesh would examine how fiscal policy, investment planning and public institutions could support technology-based industry and skilled employment. He urged participants to identify feasible projects, responsible counterparts and clear next steps.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Tareq Md Ariful Islam also addressed the dialogue. Consul General Kazi Muhammad Jabed Iqbal welcomed participants and conducted the proceedings.

The consulate general said it would work with the delegation and interested participants to identify areas for further discussion and cooperation.​
