Well depends on context of use of the term.

If it is commonly used as a put-down (not just by you but in general use by society in India), then it is unwelcome.

If it is not a put-down - then all good.

The standard I use is - when you use the term against a person, how they perceive it (welcome or unwelcome).

Respect is always a pre-amble to personal interactions.

For you young guys - I always use one single example.

If there was an attractive young twenty something Muslim girl from Bangladesh (a potential mate for you), could you say "Bong" or "Chaddi" as a slur to her face? Or even "mull"?

That is the standard I'd use for everyone, yes even in a forum like this.

Bong, Bram, Mallu, Tam, Bhaiyya, Bihari, Mia and many other such are not offensive, just slang, not necessarily offensive, it depends of context.

Gujarati Taqiya : If Gujaratis get called for their Scamming Bania behaviour, show it as an attack on India and Indians.

Saar they are not attacking Chor Adani but India Saar.

I just witnessed GSLV launch of geostatiory satellite, 100th by Indian launch vehicle. The chairman ISRO remembered the visionary first chairman of ISRO Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, a Gujarati from Amadavad.
