Pakistan is a proxy for different nations at different time. When war happened, it was China's proxy. Subsequently, it is US proxy.

That's what I thought. When I first read of reports of speculation of Brahmos sale to Phillipines many years ago, I was a bit annoyed and wondered how could they think of selling Brahmos to Phillipines. I didn't get the logic. Perhaps corruption was involved.
