I agree with doc saab that Chinese are mostly mercantile and planter class. But so are most Indians. I wouldn't underestimate their fighting abilities. You don't need the whole country to fight. A million will do. Those many warriors you can find easily.

On the other hand, the warrior Japs have been totally made clerical class.

Every region of India (erstwhile princely states) has a fighting class, from which their armies were drawn.

Our regimental structure is still a throwback to British times and very much reflects the same.

I asked @Jiangnan which was the last hot war the Chinese had fought.

The consensus was the Korean war.

In terms of trickle down that @TheNewb77 and I were discussing, even the generations that experience trickled down to are long retired.

I hope you see my point.

If the Japanese and Germans had free reigns and weren't restricted by the Americans - they would dominate right now.

Much of the white Americans in the US are Germans - they stole German scientists to build their nukes.
yes, NASA main man Wehrner von Braun and many others helped in space, nuke, rocketry.. everything.

also, its pronounced Wahn Aufen Brawn, I learnt from a German. :P

While that is true, it was also a limiting factor. Making warriorship hereditary / caste based was not a very smart thing to do historically. Many khatris were simply couch potatoes and had no real fighting skills. While many agrarian communities produced tough men but weren't elevated to leadership positions.

Now the system is more merit based.
