Of course people get shafted. It is the nature of people ro shaft people.

It is naive to believe that with UCC people will not shaft people.

They will shaft people regardless.

Personal law has nothing to do with the state.

How we marry, or how we separate, how we take care of our kids, how we structure our families, how we leave inheritance of personal wealth, how we worship, who we consider part of our faith, who we do not, who we allow into community space, who we do not, who we allow into our places of worship or community gatherings, who we do not, who of us get formal religious death rites in our places of disposal of mortal remains, who do not, who get financial or other benefits (housing, scholarships, etc) from community funds and trysts, and who are ineligible.

None of this is any business of the state.

Criminal law, yes.

Personal, NO.
India is such a mess.. dekho, I'm single and an only kid.. mujhe koi fark ni.

Mai to greater good of others ki baat raha tha, doosron ke saath, incl close friends of the family and family/relatives proper ka bhi dekha hai.

I hope we can agree on population regulation wala at least.. ki only making kids if you can acchi tareh dekh baal, and not because you want to effect demographic change. Know what I'm sayin', doc ?

Sharma I have an excellent discussion of this on my batch group.

We fast running out of the "demographic dividend"

We NEED babies.

Yes, not the crotch scratching ones. But we NEED babies.

this was taken out a small dhaba "cafe" window.. menu pe choclate pancake litha tha.. order kara to plain paratha with a thin coating of nutella mila, some not very nicely made maggie also, tasted delish but.. somehow

*&*&*& me man,I dont have any pics of the village inside.. we got very happy soon as we entered.

keep money over the counter and they'll lob your goods back.. haanth milana is haram ! .. yahan tak ki, paise pay krne hai.. wont take direct from your hand.. keep it on zameen or taple ya counter pe, then they'll pick it up.

descendants of Alexander ki defeated army took refuge there, says the local lore.

things are slowly changing but : ( .. ek baar experience kar aao before its lost to history !

Ive never had this no touching experience.

Ive gotten lost (without a flashlight or matches) on a trek. And sat outside a guy's hut and smoked up with him. He gave me a flashlight, and told me to leave it at the hotel counter, from where he would pick it up.

Thats the day I learned that in the mountains, without a light, you are dead.

In Malana proper ??

ok, I had rested my foot on a little porch type to tie my laces and a bunch of women came screaming (not angry) ki "hato hato hato !!"

They were warning me, ki fine ho jaata hai warna.

Place got its own "constitution" too.. musta been super nice before it became trendy, I went very late.

You can lease nearby fields for a season and grow your own, saari kheti aapki.. and the rubbing utarna is done by little kids and women, because their hands are soft and more suited to the gentle art of resin making.. you can give it a go yourself too.

A girl shows the hand of a cannabis field worker (not in picture) in Malana.

^ jhoot ! (or maybe its a woman's hand) .. kids do a LOT of rubbing. They are the preferred ones for the job because their soft wittle hands got the touch.. almost a midas touch, if you think about it.. but that's the culture and tradition there.
