Why wouldn't a Persian say that ?

For Persians, everything east of the Indus is Hendu.

Hindu converts till the Indus.

And obviously the filthy swamplands of the riverine delta to our east.

Fun fact. Cousin marriages were absolutely kosher in pre Islamic Persia as well.

And in fact, that's where Pakistanis got it from.

Not their Hindu and Buddhist ancestry.
