Yes that is true. It is foolish on our part. If we reduced the duty, nobody is going to buy US cars. Ford packed up from here.US cars are of inferior quality.

Safran had offered to build an engine out of offset money of Rafale purchase. Russia has offered batter RD 33 with AL 41 sort of technology. Roles Royce has offered partnership a long back. However, unfortunately, we take more time in decisions making than we take to develop actual product. Because of Missile technology control regime, we had no option but to make missile. So we developed missile ourselves and became missile super power. Same is the case with ISRO. However, our corrupt political establishment never allowed fighter planes to be developed to get hefty commission. Kaveri project was not funded. Consultancy was never allowed to be materialized.
