The BBT-2 is a turboprop-powered military basic trainer and light attack aircraft developed by the Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre (BAC). The modern light aircraft was developed with the cooperation of Aermacchi, a subsidiary of Leonardo. The Bangla-Italian collaboration trainer features a retractable tricycle landing gear with low wing arrangement. It is powered by a Rolls-Royce M250 340 kW turboprop engine that gives the BBT-2 a maximum speed of 354 km/h. The maximum range of the BBT-2 is 1,000 km and service ceiling is around 6,500 m.The BBT-2 is manned by a crew of two personnel, however it has the capacity to bear two additional passengers or a stretcher with a patient during emergencies. The side by side seat military trainer is equipped with modern avionics and safety equipment supplied by US and European countries including components from Honeywell, Garmin and Martin-Baker.The BBT-2 is equipped with six hardpoints with a maximum load of 800 kg of weapons. A variety of laser guided rockets, machine gun pods and gravity bombs can be carried aboard the light aircraft allowing for use in a close air support role. The Bangladesh Air Force will opt for Turkish-made aerial munitions and targeting solutions. Currently the aircraft is undergoing test flights. If all goes to plan the Bangladesh Air Force may accept it and order for serial production of the aircraft in Bangladesh at BACs premises.
Bangladesh Air Force won't use it for itself or market it worldwide before releasing the upgraded version of BBT2. Our BAF has made a good start to build a strong aviation industry in the country. It should only be used for training only. Its too slow even at a light attack role.
To make the project more viable BAF should market it as commercial crop duster type thing.
BBT2 is a great leap from BBT1. BAF needs to make few more leaps before considering mass production.
Its a good start i would agree as far as assembling is concerned as BAF has never done anything like this before. But please do not get fooled by these stupid propaganda videos. What we are seeing here is 50-70 year old technology that militarily is redundant. These kit based planes are assembled in garages as a hobby in the west.Bangladesh Air Force won't use it for itself or market it worldwide before releasing the upgraded version of BBT2. You are doing an injustice to Bangladesh by comparing it with the West. Bangladesh is a third world country so technologically light years behind than the West. Bangladesh Air Force, with a budget of paltry $500 million, has done a commendable job in making a basic trainer that is technologically far ahead than Chinese PT-6.These kit based planes are assembled in garages as a hobby in the west.
These bogus talks of starting a aviation industry is quite ridiculous.
No I also believe BAF has done a good job. But we need some more prototypes before choosing one for mass production. You are doing an injustice to Bangladesh by comparing it with the West. Totally agree with youNo I also believe BAF has done a good job. But we need some more prototypes before choosing one for mass production.
BB2 is just not good enough for any kind of battle or really for just even for surveillance. Its a great platform however for learning and setting up a basis for future development.
