But I have heard that dalits serve army, if not entire military, in large numbers. How is their performance? Do you know anything about it? I know a bit about adivasis in army but I don't know about dalits.

I am not clued into Hindu caste structure too much. My dad was an expert.

For me my classification is largely anthropological. And cultural, behavioral. I clump Indians into racial, class groups. Based on how they look. Speak. And behave.

Money does not remotely come into the equation.
