ISLAMABAD: Last week, representatives from Pakistan, Russia, China, and Iran, all with significant interests in Afghanistan, silently registered a joint protest with the interim Afghan Taliban government.

The complaint centered on the perceived failure to adequately control the activities of various terrorist groups within Afghanistan, as disclosed by a reliable source familiar with the matter to The Express Tribune on Sunday.

The joint protest occurred during a conference held in Kabul on January 29, attended by envoys from the four nations. It had been previously agreed upon that these countries would collectively express their concerns about terrorist activities to the Taliban regime.
The initiative for a joint protest originated from Pakistan, believing that a united front by key neighbours could influence the Afghan Taliban to address the issue.

However, the source revealed that the Taliban cleverly convened a regional conference, inviting other nations to counteract the move. Officials from India, Turkey, Indonesia, and certain Central Asian states attended alongside representatives from China, Pakistan, Russia, and Iran.

Pakistan's special envoy on Afghanistan, Ambassador Asif Durrani, was unable to travel to Kabul due to illness. In his absence, Pakistan's charge D'affaires in Kabul joined special envoys from Russia, Iran, and China to quietly express reservations about the use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups.

While China and Russia may not have taken a harsh public stance, private concerns persist over terrorist activities on Afghan soil.

China identifies the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), operating from Afghanistan, as a severe security threat. Russia and Iran also express worries about the potential spillover impact of certain terrorist activities inside Afghanistan.

Pakistan has been increasingly vocal in recent months, reminding the Afghan Taliban to fulfill their commitments and prevent the use of Afghan soil by terrorists.

A recent UN report confirmed that the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had strengthened since the return of Taliban rule, aligning with Pakistan's concerns. The report highlighted that while the Afghan Taliban generally held a "sympathetic" view of the TTP, some members joined the anti-Pakistan terrorist outfit out of religious duty.

Despite being in power for over two years, no country has officially recognised the Taliban government, citing insufficient progress on certain issues.

However, China recently took an unprecedented step by accepting the Taliban's full-time ambassador in Beijing, a move viewed in diplomatic circles as tacit recognition.

Observers of Chinese diplomacy believe this decision does not signify a complete abandonment of reservations over the Taliban government. Instead, China sees the potential to incentivise the Taliban to take action against terrorist outfits through diplomatic engagement.

Some in Pakistan hope that this could work to their advantage, as China may use this leverage to persuade Kabul to address Islamabad's concerns.

How about the Irani's stop giving constant humanitarian food and fuel aid to the talibunnies and threaten them with deporting the 9 million Afghani refugees in Iran for a start? Otherwise this is just hypocrisy. Talibunny killing our soldiers left n right.

A lot of people are missing the point. Afghans are maintaining back channels with the Americans via Qatar. They need their US assets unfrozen; They need the hold of their Washington embassy, their UN seat, and above all, recognitions with cash payments. When you need something from the Afghans, always deal with them ad-hoc with significant cash payments. Only a fool will trust them with long-term commitments. Ask them to do each task and pay them. For example, pay them to arrest top TTP leaders for a starter. Everything is up for sale in Afghanistan, Everything.

Sir G my point was k Iran is keeping the Afghani alive with food/ fuel/ goods n services and I wouldn't be surprised dollars either, and the Talibunny are now eating full stomach and 9 million inside Iran getting reasonable treatment. Then the Talibunny attack our soldiers in KPK and by default we know the Talibunny totally backing Baloch insurgents. We know!.....Irani turani should realize what dey doing inadvertantly is extremely bad. This is not good neighborliness. Our gubment should tell Iran k this ain't right. Make aid conditional to Afghani based on good Afghani behavior.

And again, we need to give some incentives to the Iranians. They also want something, and our government must find out what exactly the Iranians want in return. No one does anything for free except we Pakistanis in this world. We are fools.

What more do we do? and how much do we do? Irani's defacto running our balochistan and with tripal pee pee and Pakistani shia community they got considerable influence in our country. If Irani's ever stopped the low cost smuggling of power/ water/ refined fuel/ biscuits/ chai/ jam/ jelly/ cooking oil/ lobia/ gundum/ services and resources support to Gwader existing in the middle of no where.......we are going to be in trouble. We allowed all this to happen over da last decade or so. Lets chalk this up as yet another success of our bewquff jharrnails. On our east, India is anxiously watching us struggle on our western borders.

We need to rein in these cross-border smuggling racketeering as the government is not getting any import duties from these imports, and Iranians are exporting duty-free. Establishing the rule of law is the first step towards the development. We tolerate illegal activities for far too long for short-term benefits at the expense of strategic advantages.

We should have just let the Soviet Union win in Afghanistan. In that case, We would have peace in Pakistan Today. Russia is friendly with us anyway. We made a paramount error of judgment by playing along with the CIA.

Sooner or later, India will fall under Chinese wings. Most big Indian businesses now have deep China ties. Money talks at the end of the day. We Pakistanis must clean our house first as there is a big mess there. Then, we can take on anyone. Our biggest problem to solve is widespread jahilyat at home.

China-India economic ties have the potential to determine how China deals with Pakistan in the future. The implications and consequences of that realization can be important for Pakistanis to realize.

As the American saying goes, always " Follow the money" when you try to figure out what is happening.

Only since last year we've officially started blaming the Afghani's for terrorism in our country. I'm glad that now we are telling it like it is. What a disgrace Afghanistan has become:

I just hope we can convince da Irani's to invade from da west on de open plains all da way to Herat and den proceed to mazare-sharif, all of which they gifted to da Afghani couple 100 years ago and wes just steam-roll these Afghani in Paktia/ Paktika/ Kunar and Qandahar!.....Do haftay main saara drama khatam ho jaana hae....lol. This is really the end game. Afghani haramzaday won't backdown bhai. We've already tried everything under da sun and even beyond. Munira sahb should come up wid a regional plan.

And it is not difficult to figure out that the fact that Pakistan does not have much money of its own, by itself, is a good predictor of how it will be treated by other countries, including China.

China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Pakistan should recognize the Afghan Taliban government.
I am not so sure about the other countries, but the government of Pakistan is not going to recognize the Afghan 'Taliban' government under the current situation anytime soon. Many things must change on the part of the Afghan Government before it can happen. There is a whole list of things for the Kabul government to comply with first.

We should recognize the Afghan Taliban. The Afghan Taliban have won the war, they deserved to be recognized. Their 20 year war is won, they have won it.
